Be VERY careful boiling water in the nuke cabinet. It can be come super heated without boiling and literally explode all over you when you grab it to take it out. I use a stovetop espresso maker. All the boiling is contained and is a faster process than a press. It will also remove any possibility of getting scalded by superheated mystery water. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

I have a small container of marble chips what were bought to go in the bottom of flower pots. I add one of these to the water to provide 'nucleation' to keep from getting burned or at least making a mess. When a thing is funny, search it carefully for a hidden truth. - George Bernard Shaw

When I want to make tea or hot chocolate I heat water in the microwave, but never to the point of boiling. Typically 1-2 minutes for a cup of water. Even then I have to let it cool before I can drink it. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

I heard this as well. Mythbusers said it can't happen with tap water, but can with distilled. ALSO, some claim filtered tap water can 'splode, too. Link to original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_OXM4mr_i0

My old boss once showed me his practice in reheating his coffee in the microwave. "I set it for 15 seconds (or whatever), and the handle comes right back to the front so I don't have to reach in." I laughed and cried for him at the same time. That's something Bill Lumbergh would do.

I was always under the impression that this "explosion" only happened with pyrex in the nuker. While I have noticed that water is hotter than expected coming out of the microwave (particularly in pyrex), in all my years of doing it that way I have never experienced an explosion. 30 seconds for half a cup and 1 minute for a full cup is usually perfect for coffee/tea/whatever. These days, though, I use an electric kettle. It doesn't take much longer to heat up water than nuking it. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil."
