a) No mags over ten rounds.
b) The CA Roster (the list) is irrelevant to your purposes.
c) Locked case with pistol and loaded mags is okay as long as none are in the gun.
d) Loaded gun is okay in your “castle”. Most likely be okay at a campsite in your parked camper, though not driving in it. If you’re visiting friends and on their private property your okay. Just don’t be in public with a loaded gun.
Have a good trip.
Ok, I have my normal pelican pistol case and locks so I am good there. I just need to find some silly 10 rounders. I may just take my Glock 43, I just really love my 229
I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my questions. I have visited those sites again and feel much better about the trip.

slosigWhat caliber P229? I have 10 round 40/357 .Sig mags and 10 round 9mm mags for the P228/P229 9mm. If either of those are what you need, drop me an email with an address and I’ll send you a couple. Just send them back when you’re back home.
ETA, I have used the P228/P229 9mm mags for thousands of rounds in my P229R that started life as a .40 with a 9mm upper with no functional problems ever, but the mags can shift side to side a little, making a light noise.

How much Ammo can be brought into the state? ---- is there a limit?

weiser09Your gun doesn't need to be on the approved list. The list is only an issue for residents purchasing from a dealer.

I may wind up doing that. I find this whole process irritating.

When I go through customs in other countries, I don't declare my personally owned items like a watch, that I plan to bring back with me when I leave. For the purposes of crossing int'l. borders, importation means things you bring in and don't take back home with you.
Merriam-Webster defines "import" as

to bring from a foreign or external source

Russ59If you're driving through Reno and I-80 and pass through Sacramento, I'll meet you at the Chick F Lay and you can borrow my 10 round mags. I have a P229.

Nice thing too is that the empty shells stay in the pistol

Thanks, we are going the southern route and will spend a few days at the Grand Canyon, then on over to LA.
