Bunch of savages in this town |
..for his 15th birthday. He's never flown before either. So we are flying to see his Grandparents, and then going to see the Terracotta Army exhibit. Tickets are ordered. Just need to pack the bags. And wait for a few months... But it will be very memorable. I taught him how to drive a few days ago. They grow up so fast... ----------------- I apologize now...

I believe in the principle of Due Process |
Keep feeding him. If you play your cards right, one of these days he’ll be picking up the check for dinner, and more besides. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

It a traveling exhibit of the Terracotta Army. They will have actual "soldiers" on display, but we are staying in the US. We are still very excited about it though. He didn't get straight A's. He got 1 B. But he is an aspiring Marine, made his high school soccer team, and broke the 1 mile record at his last school. He's also an entrepreneur. Has his own business dog sitting, mowing yards, and makes $40/hr refereeing soccer games. What I love about him the most, is I don't have to tell him to go to bed. He does it himself, and he wakes up at 4am to workout with me. Jallen, he ran his first 1/2 marathon last year. I had to lie about his age, you have to be 16. I told him to run to the hydration areas, and then walk the ~50yds while rehydrating. He still ran a 1:44.10. I think he'll be around 1:35 this year. He's nervous about flying though... ----------------- I apologize now...

Step by step walk the thousand mile road |
I had the good fortune to travel to China on business, and was able to bring my spouse and daughter-chan (at the time she was eight; she's now 21) over for a packaged tour. Of course, the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an were part of the travel package. It was amazing. We also saw the exhibition you are going to when it was at the National Geographic in DC. It is an excellent exhibition. Here are some of the pictures I took with my eight megapixel camera (high speed, low drag for 13 years ago). The main building over the excavation site is huge. This is about a quarter of the building. The recovered and repaired statutes back in the dig where they were found. These are typical examples. The statutes are usually recovered in pieces and are reassembled from the broken bits. Daughter-chan, being Caucasian and blonde, attracted hordes of Chinese who wanted to rub her head for luck. The detail on each statue was remarkable. And there are a few thousand of them. This bronze chariot was one of three recovered from the area where the Emperor was interned. This is a point I didn't know before going there, that there are four burial areas, each one different, and each one filled with these intricate objects of art. The southern chamber. I hope that you have safe travels and enjoy the bonding time. Sounds like he's going to grow up to be a good strong Man. I've been flying on commercial airlines since I was 8, and have loved it since day one. I don't care for the lines and hassles before boarding, but once seated, it's easy peasy. As an adult I want as aisle seat for legroom and easy exit, but as a kid window seats were great.
