jhe888,

I have a Honda 21” HRX series self-propelled that is in its 16th year of residential use on about .4 acres of flat terrain. It cuts/mulches great and is still running pretty nicely and does not show any signs of giving up the ghost. A nice feature is the variable adjustment for bagging from none to 100%.

I know that your preference is for ‘cheap’, but it you are planning to be at your place for a longer period of time you may need to replace a cheap mower one or twice over the same amount of time a more expensive mower may last, thus resulting in a net even cost.

Everyone always says Honda Honda Honda so I grabbed a sub $500 version at Home Depot fully realizing it's a homeowner model. Double blades, easy start. I do admit it did start easily but the cut quality wasn't passable at all. It left a row of clippings by the left rear tire. Total garbage. I disassembled it, kept the engine and threw the rest away. Wasted money, lesson learned. You'd really have to not care about how your lawn looks to use a Honda mower.

It was either you got a lemon or the $500 ones don't cut like the $1200 ones because mine cuts the grass very well and leaves nothing behind.

And that line "You'd really have to not care about how your lawn looks to use a Honda mower" is complete bullshit man. You're bashing ALL Hondas off of the ONE bad experience you had? C'mon now. Roll Eyes

I wonder if he had a mower with a Honda engine and not a Honda mower??

A few years ago I bought a used Honda self-propelled mover in Nov. I wanted it for mulching & under some apple trees.

Hardly anyone buys a mower in Nov, in WI. The guy wanted it gone for the Winter.

I don't think I want a corded electric mower - they seem like a pain. But they are cheap, and if they aren't as much a pain as I think, tell me.

Battery powered?

A small gas one? Maybe a used one?

I want cheap. I have no love for lawn work, and the goal is to get the grass cut with minimal fuss and expense. Having a deluxe mower will bring me no joy.

They’re about 1k.

I know robotic is over the OP's price range. My yard isn't compatible with a robot mower, but if it was, I'd seriously consider one. I look forward to the first cut or two of the season, not so much after that (mowing twice a week now).

There's a house in our neighborhood that has one and each time I see it cutting the grass I'm a little envious Smile .
