Police seize over a thousand guns, piles of ammunition from Los Angeles home originally appeared on abcnews.go.com

A man in Los Angeles' posh Holmby Hills neighborhood was hiding a stash of weapons large enough to outfit an army.

The Los Angeles Police Department busted Girard Damien Saenz, 57, with as many as 1,000 weapons piled up in his home. Authorities also found massive stockpiles of ammunition.

Saenz, who was living in the home alone, was booked for unlawful transportation and giving, lending or selling assault weapons. Additional charges may be added later, including federal charges, authorities said. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

"I had never seen so many weapons in my career of 31 years," said LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez. "That's such a big arsenal in a residence like this, in this type of neighborhood. It's astounding."

Holmby Hills is bordered by the Beverly Hills and Bel Air neighborhoods and is home to the late Aaron Spelling's massive $85 million mansion and the Playboy Mansion.

Officials removed all of the guns -- hundreds of rifles, semiautomatics, handguns and even antique Civil War-era guns -- and piled them up outside the man's home. Officials spent the entire afternoon cataloging the humongous stash of firearms.

Ramirez called the cache of weapons "beyond comprehension" in a press conference Wednesday. He said the large house was cluttered with piles of guns and ammunition spread throughout different rooms.

Saenz apparently was licensed to own weapons -- and there is no prohibition on the number of guns a person can own -- but the person was selling the guns illegally, according to police.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) assisted in the operation.

I saw a few Pythons on the pile of handguns. Looked like guy was connected with the Getty's. Very nice collection.

I'm seeing a bunch of Mini-14s and 10/22s. Must have been a big Ruger fan.

Finally a horde/armory/stash/massive collection worthy of the title!

Looks like he was very much short on ammo, proportionally.

Dude has over a thousand inexpensive guns... To each his own, but really guy. Par that down and get some nice stuff.

Oh, and maybe don't sell guns illegally, you moron. You make the rest of us look bad when you do stuff like that.

Of course he was. Roll Eyes

They just didn't like the idea of someone having that many guns.

Should't this have been written in the proper way presuming that the man isn't guilty of anything, regardless of what the actions are purported to be, so with an little editorial license to help bring the article into the PC LBGTQPROZ proper format.....

Even with all the extra hoops to jump through that have been added since I left in 2003, California doesn't require a permit or license to purchase or own guns.

I'm confused, which happens more and more as I age. What did this collector do that was against the law? If there was any evidence to support the police's claims, wouldn't they say so?

I saw this story 10 minutes ago on the CBS evening news. They made a big deal about this guy owning so many guns. "You never know what your neighbor is up to", kind of stuff. Sounds like one of his neighbors got 'uppidy' and complained. Is that complaint enough to justify a warrant served at 4:00 in the am? And nobody offered any legal reason for the seizure.

I don't understand the outrage. What is so bad about gun ownership? Is there some limit to the amount of ammo you can have? Must be a California kind of thing.

"Shall Not Be Infringed."

Let us go back to that basic recognition of natural rights given to us by God, and made into law in the documents that founded our nation.

Then we might talk "reasonable compromises."

I'll bet a dollar that "illegally sold" means the sales weren't processed through a FFL, which has been the law there for many years. Along with the "assault weapons," a malum prohibitum (only against the law because a made-up law says so), victimless crime. Those of us in free states conduct private purchases and sales without a FFL all the time. Why, we even own assault weapons, too.

If you look close at some of the pictures there are some very nice guns there. Like I said earlier, some pythons and SAA's. I don't know if I would call them cheap guns. The guy was affiliated with one of the Getty kids. I wouldn't mind having a lot of the guns in the pictures

On the TV news it showed several Colt Pythons and older Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I wonder if he'll try to make it a test case. They already had one judge rule the magazine ban unconsitutional. It isn't a far jump to say that any firearm ban is unconstitutional.

I first saw the first photo, of the "arsenal" from a distance. I noted a whole lot of wood stocks, and thought--"huh! Not enough assault rifles!"
