What is the best method for tying off a loaf of bread
Debate here centers on the method of tying up the loaf of store bought bread which all come with twist ties. This of course leads to conversations regarding who's method is correct and why I should be doing it her way...Is it best to reuse the twist tie to secure the open end of the wrapper, or simply grab the wrapper, spin the loaf closing off air access at the opening and tuck it under the loaf setting it on the counter, sans twist tie.Damn it man, keep her happy, twist tie that suckerIt's my loaf and I'll twist and tuck if I want toLet me tell you why you're both wrong....

Do both and everyone gets a trophy.

Btw, I remove mine from the bag and put it into a Tupperware container that seals relatively air tight.

Spin it and sit it. This method is superior as the twist tie method always comes partially unraveled and creates an inferior seal.

That's my logic at least.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Either way. If you then put the sealed bag in another sealed plastic bag before throwing it back in the fridge, though, it will stay noticeably fresher for longer than would be the case if you only relied on your tie-off method and the original bread bag.

We do it all in our house, never any complaints as long as stuff doesn't get stale. Life's too short to worry about such things!!

We're a spin and tuck family here. Usually when it comes to this kind of thing my wife is a 'float your own boat' kind of gal.

We have little plastic clips that close tight across either a twist or a light gather

BTW, you forgot the old bread tags….

Plastic tags with holes in them?

Just don’t try to inhale the air out of the bag unless you want an upper respiratory infection

I do both, but in a world of picking and choosing battles, if an SO/roommate wanted the bread closed a certain way I'd just do it and conserve that ammo for a different fight Razz

You have to use the twist tie. With the tuck, one bad move and things can go horribly wrong.

Yep. I ceded this fight very early on. Not a hill worth dying on.

If you're worried about it going stale, you're not eating it fast enough! Buy a smaller loaf (or cut it in half, and freeze a half). This for good bread, the non-artisan stuff, why would anyone car what you do with it?

A girl I once lived with (who is no longer around) once chastised me for spinning the bread. Said I was 'crushing' it. 'What a bitch, I thought and I told her she was nuts.

Some years later I have to admit, she was actually right. I'd never tell her that of course. Cool

Twist and apply a plastic clippy thing. Looks like an alligator clip but for bread bags.

I use a twist tie, AND a Ziploc bag. I hate stale bread.

I have been making my own bread lately and I do what konata88 does, I put it in a Tupperware container also.
