I have looking for a barebones but very reliable GPS capable tablet.
The size is right and Costco is about to have them for $90.
I will be running 2 apps with it. Gaia GPS and OBDLink.
I’ll be using this mainly as my dedicated GPS unit when off-roading I’ll have downloaded maps but also want rock solid GPS with no cell service required.
It will also be the live monitor for a number of sensors on my truck.

Is this a solid little tablet?

I bought one (cellular & wifi) for my mom last year for Christmas.

She's not that tech savvy, and she has never called me once to "fix" it, so that means it's been working smooth for about a year so far.

I've had a Galaxy Tab for years. I don't know if it has GPS, but it's been pretty solid and reliable.

I have 3 of the 8" Tab A tablets (got them "free" when we upgraded phones a while back).

They have been great little tablets. GPS is good, battery life is excellent.

The ability to have different "profiles" is nice as well.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I have had one for several years with no cell capability. I have used it for the exact same GPS nav unit purpose and Kindle reader. Never failed me. Still use it every day.

I have the 8", the wife 10". Given the option, I prefer the 8", that much easier to handle and charges quite a bit faster. Both have very nice displays, I love the Tab A's.

When in use this will be mounted on my dash above my stereo screen so I want the smaller screen.
I think the bigger A7 with 10” screen will be $175 when Costco has their deal.
I think it may have more processing power, Ram, and storage but just running 2 apps I don’t think the extra will be needed.
Also too big for on the dash.

Is there an existing mount you're looking to use? Post a pic when you get this done. Smile

I’ll be using an ICS dash mount plate with a RAM tablet mount.

Couple of pics on the site. Will grab the tablet on the 20th when they go on sale and hope to get the mount around Christmas. So it will be a touch before I have pics of my own.

Just thought I would say hello from my new Galaxy Tablet. Hopefully my $80 was well spent.

My Android knowledge is very minimal so it will be a learning curve for sure. Currently just learning the ropes with this thing.

Anyone know if this thing can play FLAC files and what the largest microSD card this thing can take? Looking forward to my case getting here this little thing is slicker than snot.

Here is to hoping ICS has a Black Friday Sale so I can order my mount for this.

I was wondering the same thing..

I’m leaning towards a 67 Designs system for my Gladiator build but they’re not cheap.

I have the basic Gaia now but have not taken it out in the wild so to speak. Please let us know how you like it...

32GB of built in memory; Plus expand your storage up to 512GB anytime with a Micro SD card

Not sure on playing Flac files. Hopefully it will.

Was there a sale for $80 that I missed. Showing $89.99 on Costco's website.

This link will get you 52% off the Gaia subscription price.

I have used it on 2 trips on the iPhone and was learning how to use it.
We weren’t out on the unknown uncharted territory but well off unmarked roads.
It did well for us never really using it before. I wanted a bigger screen and a dedicated unit so the price and stability of the Samsung units made this a no brainer.

Sorry, I fat fingered that and they are 89.99 which is $50 off currently.
It comes with 32GB card I’ll pick up some 512s to store my FLACK files for music since the fella after you says FLAC is good to go.

VLC a good app for playing FLAC files or something better?

Anyone know if there is an emergency text app that utilizes the satellites available to this tablet?

I've seen 512gb MicroSD cards for $69.99 on Amazon when they were on sale in July. If you are planning on moving a lot of music and movie files, get the name brand cards with the fastest Read/Write speeds or you could be waiting ages for the file transfers to complete. That usually means U3,A2 and V30 ratings on the card. I stick with Samsung, Sandisk or PNY brands because they are usually the reputable ones that have the ratings and have good sales on Amazon. I would make do with a smaller card until the largest one comes up on sale with a price I'm willing to pay.

I have Samsung and Sandisk 512gb cards in my tablets and phone with no issues.

PNY 512GB PRO Elite Class 10 U3 V30 microSDXC Flash Memory Card

SAMSUNG EVO Select 512GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 100MB/s Full HD & 4K UHD Memory Card with Adapter

Samsung EVO Plus Class 10 Micro SDXC with Adapter, 512GB

SanDisk 512GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2, Micro SD

These will probably all be on sale for at least a day on Amazon sometime between now and the end of the year for below $70.

I do use VLC for watching movies and both VLC and the stock Samsung music app to play .flac files.

Since I am not using this as a standard tablet per say I am using the Agama Car Launcher as my home page so it is more streamlined.
My case and glass screen protector is set to arrive today. I need to figure out a way to send my settings for OBDLink to the tablet from my iPhone. Then just holding to see about the ICS mount.
