Not sure that's a good choice because you could get someone that you really don't know how they will perform especially with all the issues in the narrow margin in the Senate...

Guess he doesn't want to be an influence peddler?

Update: Looks like Grahams sister will be the interim appointee.

Choosing a temporary replacement for Lindsey Graham is a complicated and strategic decision many people would overlook.

McMasters needed to appoint a replacement ASAP, there was no time to do this. In the Republican primary earlier this year, Graham handily beat 6 other opponents, all nobodies and inexperienced in elected office, same as his sister. After the August break, there is very little for a U.S. Senator to do, in Graham's case, he would campaign for his re-election in November. Trump needed Graham and his support, one of his strongest allies in the Senate, especially in regards to the SAVE ACT. Graham had over 50 staffers/advisors in his office, all tuned in for supporting his work and agenda in the Senate.

IMO, Trump wants nothing politically to change in Graham's senate office in the next four months, giving him and the Republicans time to come up with a proper replacement to run for his seat in November. Different names has been attached to wanting the seat- Nancy Mace, Nikki Haley, etc. And I'm sure Trump would like someone else if possible.

So Graham's sister does provide a situation of keeping Graham's office alive for the time being while providing a buffer and some time to properly prepare for the November election. And someone who would not rock the boat in regards to Trump's agenda in the senate.

Scott Bessent would be a really good candidate for that job.

Apparently his sister has been his #2 in command and is well versed in the job and the operations of his office.
She's familiar with the issues and his positions and should have no problem filling in until the election.
If there were to be any controversial decisions between now and election day, this gives the candidate who ends up as the Republican nominee a lot of wiggle room if needed.

Scott Bessent is doing a absolutely STELLAR job as the Secretary of the Treasury, so it would be unwise to make, or even consider a change in his role...Not to mention, he does not live in Kentucky, nor has never lived in Kentucky!

Bessent lives in Charleston, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C. To my knowledge, though he has has extensive real estate holdings, he has never even owned property in Kentucky!

We're talking about replacing Graham, who never represented Kentucky. You're thinking of the Turtle thread. You're probably correct that Bessent doesn't want the job. Most folks think it will be Pamela Evette.

That said, Scott Bessent IS doing a absolutely STELLAR job as the Secretary of the Treasury, so it would be unwise to make, or even consider a change in his role!

Hawley Doesn’t Rule Out Russian Foul Play in Graham Death, Urges Full Toxicology Report, Autopsy

Monday on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) insisted U.S. investigators should at least consider the possibility of Russian foul play in the death of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

“One of your colleagues in the Senate, Senator Cornyn, is not ruling out foul play,” host Jesse Watters said. “Lindsey had gotten back from Ukraine that same day. You know the Russians are notorious. Do you think that that’s a possibility?”

Hawley replied, “Listen, I think that the FBI, I know, is involved in this. I think it is only wise and smart to look at every angle here. I absolutely think there should be a full toxicology report, autopsy — the whole thing. I mean, nobody had been a greater advocate of taking on Putin than Lindsey Graham. Nobody had been tougher on the Iranians over time than Lindsey. He had a lot of enemies in the world, so I wouldn’t rule anything out. I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist, and you know, I hope that none of that is true.”

“But the truth is that we’ve lost a good man,” he added. “The Senate has lost a good man who was doing a lot of good work, and I think we owe it to his constituents and the American people to get the truth.”
