I had heard that, but just a couple weeks ago I went into Home Depot to buy an EGo battery powered lawn mower. My plan was to request the veteran's discount and if refused, go across the road to Lowe's to buy a GreenWorks mower.

I got to the checkout counter, asked if the veteran's discount applied to the purchase and showed my Florida Driver License, which has the 'V' veteran designator, and the answer was, "Of course." I guess that either Home Depot's corporate policy has changed, or it's a store-by-store thing. Now that I think about it though, there was never any discussion about my exact veteran status. Given my age (82) and the fact that I was using a cane, the dude might have assumed that I was either retired or had a service-connected disability.

Hmmm... I'm doing a Man Cave build. While I prefer Lowe's, I'm not adverse to shopping at HD. Do it all the time. Guess I'll have to figure out something I need... or, hell, make something up Smile

I asked my local HD if they gave discounts to veterans. "I'll need proof," the cashier responded. "Will a photo of my DD214 do?" She looked puzzled. "My official discharge papers," I explained. "Sure," she replied.

And that's all I've done ever since.

Great Lakes ACE Hardware gives discounts to veterans, too.

They do and I did. And that status is hooked to my "My Lowe's" card. They scan my card and I automatically get the discount. Usually a "Thank you for your service," as well. (And they seem to mean it, too.)

The last time I used HD for just under 2k worth of stuff (tile, etc.) I got just under $200 off.

I very recently purchased $1700 in carpet and installation and got $170 off.

So the $50 limit annually is not right. Further, you don't have to use your card (or at least I didn't) to get the discount, so how would they know when anyone reached $50?

You do have to have "Service Connected" on your VA card, assuming that is what you show them your status, in all the local stores I frequent.

I don't think the boycott will have much effect at my local Home Depot On the weekend a guy has to fight for a place to park.

Geez, you'd think they were giving away free money or something.

I did a twitter search for the #boycotthomedepot . It was interesting. there were a number of posts stating how much business they do, and how important they are and they would be going to Lowe's. The reaction was funny. Many were stating that Lowe's donates even more to GOP folk, and others were noting how stupid it is to be mad at Home Depot because of a guy who hasnt worked for them for 15 years.

Either way the general consensus seems to be they are all idiots. "That's not how it works, that's not how any of this works"

I think all Hispanics should protest. Go over to 7-Eleven in defiance and offer their illegal labor there.

Hopefully their boycott goes as well as the one they did at Chick fil a , they were forced to have more customers, and makes tons more money. Liberal boycotts are great for the economy.

I bought about $25 dollars worth of stuff from Home Depot this afternoon. If I need something fixed I sure would not call my local SJW as they tend to be pretty useless and for some bizzare reason feel morally superior to me. I sure wish Mom and Dad would kick them out of the basement so they could see how the real world lives!

Go to va.gov and get a Veteran I.D. They are free and work perfectly.

Social justice types and internet influencers? These are the folks that never left mom & dads house and have no tangible or equitable benefits to society. This is the end result of participation awards & political correctness.

The Nashville HD on Old Hickory Blvd down the road from Lowes matches the Lowes veteran discount if you ask.

Maybe HD should respond by initiating a no loitering restriction on their property to stop illegals from hanging around waiting for work...then you’d REALLY see some outrage Big Grin

Home Depot has got to love this boycott. Free advertisement and all that publicity stuff.

I don't need anything and the nearest HD is in the next town but I think I'll go this weekend for something/anything.
