Honda door-to-door recall team?? Thatll be a hard no from me.
I was running home between errands this evenimg and i noticed a fairly crappy, dented, and older model Honda of some kind out front of a neighbors house with one occupant in the drivers seat. I was home for about an hour and when i left, he was still there. On my way out i paid a bit more attention. The sides of his doors had a big rectangle light blue magnet that said "HONDA RECALL TEAM" in big letters with some small words and a phone number below that.

The guy looked a bit like a thug or at least some minimum wage, low level mechanic at some quick oil change place. Not someone id want coming up to my door claiming to be with Honda, there to take my car away to repair a recall.

But, I googled honda recall teams, and they apparently have a recall on their takata airbags? And i found This notice from "honda airbag info dot com."

I get the frustration with recalls from a manufacturer's liability side and from the customers side. Its a pain to take care of a recall, but kind of important.

That being said, why would Honda think it smart to send out a young, greasy thugster-lookin kid in a beat up old honda to peoples houses to say "hey, youve got a recall. Can i take your Honda and go get it repaired for you?"

Suuuurrre. Heres the keys to my $30,000 car. Leave your $1200 old honda with some magnets on it as some laughable attempt at collateral and ill trust youll return with my vehicle in a few hours.

Who would do this?? One actual thug takes advantage of this and then what? Or just the liability of them driving "only to the dealership and back?"

I dont know if this dude in my neighborhood was actually there for the team or not but it all around just seems like a bad idea.

All my recall notices came in letter form and required making an appointment with the dealer. Those guys apparently do not inspire a lot of confidence.

First I've heard of that. My daughter's 2009 CRV had the problem airbags, they sent her a letter. I suppose the "repo man" only goes to people who have not acknowledged the letter. Still, one would think Honda would send more professional looking people to do the job.

I actually have heard of this.

When I was having my Honda serviced a few months ago, I was chatting with the service manager. He mentioned that Honda was resorting to sending people out to folks' houses to offer to take their cars in for the recall. Apparently, there are still a large number of Hondas out there with the recalled airbag inflators that have yet to be replaced. It seems a decent number of people can't be bothered to follow through with getting them fixed.

I can partly understand their frustration, though. It took over a year for my local Honda dealership to get the parts needed to perform my recall service. And luckily, I had it done while I was already planning to have some other service done, otherwise it would have required a dedicated trip to the dealership and hours of waiting. But either way, I would have done it... I certainly don't want my airbag inflator going off like a grenade and spraying my chest with shrapnel if I happen to get in an accident.

So I can see how Honda might think that this would help convince those remaining holdouts to get the recall work done, by completely removing the hassle of them having to take it to the dealership themselves. But I certainly wouldn't trust some random scrotebag who showed up at my house, claimed they were with Honda, and asked for my keys.

I have a high level of confidence in the level of stupidity today that makes me think the recall guy will be successful in obtaining a nicer Honda.

I wouldn't be surprised. I took my 08 Ridgeline in but haven't had time to take my 02 Civic. The SRS light is on so the airbag is disabled anyway.

people are letting amazon employees into their houses while they aren't home, you can't possibly be surprised these same people are tossing their keys to some random guy.

I think this is the same recall that effected my BMW.

Got 2 different letters from corporate office. First announcing the recall over 2 years ago. Another letter a year later from them saying parts are available and contact my local dealer...
finally got it done last month, and dealership still having problems getting enough replacements to comply with the recall.

BTW, it took them only 90 minutes.

As to the OP - it reminded me of those guys with the beat up pickup "with a great deal" trying to sell some leftover frozen steaks. Roll Eyes

My local dealer practically begged me to come in and get the airbag fix on my Civic, I suspect they are getting a LOT of pressure from Honda Corp to get this done before someone else gets killed and they get sued for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Well at least this post got me to check again on recalls for the family's three Honda/Acura vehicles. Thanks

It's also probably an easy swap that they are getting well compensated for.

That does sound sketchy. If you know the neighbor ask them about it. Maybe a local dealer is offering the service and sending out their lower paid oil change only guys in personal vehicles to pick up customer cars.

My dealer offered a 24hr free rental for the wife due to her work hours. Went in at closing, dropped Honda and the onsite Enterprise rental team issued out a free rental. The next day after work she picked up her Honda. No interruptions with our travel needs. No expense on our end and no lost of work time on us either.

But if Honda is offering pickup home service they should have a clean uniformed dressed "tech" show up in a new dealer demo vehicle. Leave the demo parked in front of customer house with some big signage for their dealership and what they are offering. Some nice free advertising for the local dealer.

My daughter-in-law has a 2001 Honda. I saw this thread and asked her about it.

She said "Yeah, they've been sending me letters for a couple of years, but I haven't had a chance to bring it in." Roll Eyes

My daughter took my ugly and old, but well running, 2001 Accord into Honda to have the airbag fix done a couple years ago. She came back with one of those dealer inspection reports with a quote for doing $3000 of work on it. I told her I hope you told them that was far more than it is worth LOL. It seems you can't take a car to a stealership for even an oil change these days without them trying to get you to have a lot of expensive work done on the car that is out of warranty.

Hello, I am actually a Honda recall specialist. One of the people coming to the doors of Honda owners for the Takata airbag recall. I would like to clear a few things up for you all. First off, we are not minimum wage oil technicians or thugs for the most part. We are college educated very well paid staff dedicated to finding only the Alpha Honda’s. The alphas are only the 2001-2003 for the most part. Also we are not taking anyone’s keys. We actually send out a technician who fixes the car on site in 15 minutes. Now the reason we are searching for the older models is because the chemical that is causing the airbags to explode becomes worse with time and humidity. So to clear things up we’re not coming to take your keys to your $30,000 Honda and not all of us drive old junkers like the one you have seen. My wife and I both work for Honda and I drive a 2016 VW and she drives a 2017 Jeep. Lastly if any of you have an affected Honda I urge you to get it fixed ASAP. If it is in the older years mentioned above please call or text me at 817-805-3245 and I will get someone to you to fix it. If it is not an older vehicle it is still very dangerous but you will have to go to your dealership to have it fixed.

Honda has officially changed its name to HoundYa, and they will seek you to the ends of de Erf, and fixify your car.

I hear they even solicited SpaceX to get them to Mars, just in case any affected cars are covered in red dust.

UMMMM, why wouldn't someone want a major safety item fixed under recall for free????? How hard is it to bring the car in and have it changed out???? I don't get people.

I don't have a P320. BUT, if there are no ill traits to having the recall done, I would have it done right away. Which there are none in this situation.

Different story if it's having the trigger parts replaced on a 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk and the new trigger parts make for a gritty trigger, and it's a range gun.
