To those of you on duty Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day
To everyone on duty (military, law enforcement, fire, doctors, nurses, EMS, dispatch) today or tomorrow - thank you for your service to your community or nation and thank you for the time you are spending away from your family to insure our safety. Merry Christmas to each of you.

I second that Thank You. As a Red Cross volunteer I am often priviledged to work around these folks and see the dedication they have to keeping people safe under all conditions and situations. They and our military are true American Heroes!

Agreed, Merry Christmas to all who are serving today. Makes no difference if you are serving overseas, or here in the states, or in your local communities.

This is the first Christmas I’ve had off in years. We are really enjoying it. Best wishes to those working.

I did get pulled in to work New Year’s Eve. Hopefully that won’t be too much of a circus.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Back when we were working, my wife was at the time assigned to the horse/motor unit of her department. Since she is Jewish, she would always volunteer for stable duty on Christmas Day, so the regular employees could be at home with their families. I used to go with her, but I refused to help shovel shit from 20 stalls. The officers had to do this anyway on weekends, on a rotating basis, so it was not a new thing to her. They had a nice setup with a tractor and spreader to spread the stuff out in the field. Afterwards, we would "go out to eat", which usually meant a big bite at 7-11, as everything else was closed. Thanks Tator! In 30 years of being with my wife we have never had a Christmas off together. Just part of the sacrifice that folks don't see. To all out there have a Safe and Happy Christmas. To those that are serving in what ever capacity, Thank you for what you do.

Ditto fellas.

This is the first year I've been off in over 18 years as a cop and 11 active years in the service...

Be safe guys.

When my dad was in the Navy, he missed many a Christmas with his family. Such is the life of a submariner.

Thanks to all who are serving, here and abroad, during the holidays. I for one, appreciate knowing you fine folks are out there keeping us all safe. And please, be extra safe yourselves.

Merry Christmas!

I would even extend that to everyone that keeps the world turning on these holidays:
Coal miners, electrical linemen, truck drivers, convenience store clerks, waitresses @ 24hr diners....the list goes on.
I know folks who think everything should shut down on Christmas (some even every Sunday) but then they think nothing of going out to eat on Christmas Day, or stopping to fill up with fuel. Or stopping by the grocery store for some last minute item.

My dad worked every single Christmas and New Years when he operated a dragline for a strip mining company. Yes, he got paid well for it, but it was still time away from his family. But it was also one of those situations where it would take several days to crank back up if it ever shut down completely.

To ANYONE having to work today & tomorrow: thank you & be safe

Wow, that is an unenviable yet respected record.
I'm on the hook for 24 of the next 48.
Merry CHRISTmas and God bless to you and yours sir.

Stay safe and warm out there, thanks for taking care of the rest of us.

I have several young Soldiers from my company deployed to Afghanistan right now. Luckily the care packages we sent them arrived today so at least it can brighten their Christmas away from home (many of them are on their first deployment).

Youre welcome. I head to work in 40 mins. Hopefully it won't be as stupid as the last two days.

Merry Christmas everyone.

This is six or seven in a row for me. But I'd rather work and let the ones with little kids off.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

I'm opposite. Working christmas and new years but off one the eve of each. I have been able to avoid working new years eve by taking christmas each year so far. No way I'm working that shit show.
