Because our sheriff is a nutjob, and the only way to vote him out is to vote against him in the primary. In NC you can only vote in your primary for which you are a registered voter in that party.

Zero republicans running. And unfortunately, I believe the vote is gonna be split, and somehow he will pull through.

Been a registered independent my entire life, but about to do something I never imagined before.

Unless it's you and a few thousand other people, it won't make a difference. Good luck.

It is a pity. Here in PA, former State Cops comprise probably 80 to 90% of the sitting Sheriff's in the Commonwealth. Then there is the example of the Sheriff of the County of Philadelphia who makes you question the competency and qualifications of the person holding the office. You get what you pay for.

From https://www.ncsbe.gov/register...primaryelection-1777:

If I register as an unaffiliated voter, can I vote in a primary election?
Yes. If you are an unaffiliated voter, you may participate in the primary of any recognized political party, or you may request a nonpartisan ballot. However, you may vote in only one party’s primary.

Participating in a partisan primary will not affect your status as an unaffiliated voter. If you request a nonpartisan ballot, you will only vote for those contests that are nonpartisan (i.e. referenda, etc.).

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

The only time I voted for a D was Russ Fiengold in the primary because I figured he'd be the easiest for Bob Kasten to beat. And that was the end of that.

Here in Commie infested Colorado if you register as an Independent you get BOTH primary ballots mailed to you. However, you can only vote one of them! If you vote both I think they get flagged and neither counts.
