Two “senior moments” in one afternoon

honestlouTwo “senior moments” in one afternoon
Tonight was my small town high school’s homecoming game, and several of my classmates planned on meeting there, so off we head this afternoon for the hour drive. My everyday driver is a VW Touareg TDI; I've driven it for 10 years and have been very happy with it. It’s not a very common vehicle, and I’ve never seen another one in brown.
As I’m getting on the interstate my wife says “look, a car just like yours”. Sure enough, another brown VW Touareg TDI. I pull up right next to it, keep pace, and when the passenger looks over I give him a big thumbs up with a big smile. I then drop back and pass it on the left, and it takes the next exit. I mention to my wife that I’ve not seen many Touaregs, and never a brown one. About five minutes later my wife laughs out loud, and I look over and ask “what?” She says “ I just realized we’re not in your car”. Yep, driving my wife’s white Audi; now thinking they took the next exit to get away from me.
So we’re at the homecoming game, and my friend has a “tailgate” in the north end zone. The national anthem is sung. I’m standing at attention, hand over heart, watching the flag. Wondering why the flag is dead still since I’m feeling a nice breeze. This continues- I feel a breeze, the flag is not budging. Anthem ends, I start to look around to see if I see any movement in the surrounding trees-nothing. Finally, I notice the small fan on the ground about 10 feet away. Self face palm.
We won by a lot. Had good food and drinks with old classmates. Good time.

trapper189Many years ago, I picked my girlfriend up from the airport in Fort Myers. On the drive back she said, “Oh look, there’s another car from Florida.” She was very intelligent, so I’m not sure senior moments are limited to seniors.

drill sgtYears ago (1957) on a Sunday morning after church service we were enroute home when my mother asked my father when he had installed a in-dash radio in the car... Come to realize we were not in our car but in another one of same brand/same model/same color... Returned to church parking lot to find "our" car still there with the other owners attempting to use a coat hanger to open the vehicle.. But our key opened and started their car... Big laugh had by all .......................... drill sgt.

I think that I remember that Touareg... if memory serves, I even got a short ride in it, in NJ.

rtquigEarlier this year, we flew into Ft. Myers Fla. My mother in law said her husband would pick us up in their new 4 door red Sonata.
I'm at the curb, a red 4 door pulled up and I put my luggage in the trunk and jumped in the front seat. It wasn't my FIL, and the driver looked at me and laughed. I apologized and got out laughing at my mistake. My wife didn't think it was funny.

bald1honestlou,
Take heart in just two and with details. As time goes on you'll loose track of how many senior moments you had and worse what they were.

IntrepidTravelerIn my workgroup, we have a variety of ages. The youngest (millennial, but great worker and guy) remembers everything. The middle aged one remembers that he used to know stuff. I, the old man, don't remember anything at all.
Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

Yes indeed. Well almost- November 2014. We haven’t talked directly since then and I couldn’t remember your Sigforum handle, but I’ve been thinking about you recently.
You picked me up at the airport and locked my luggage in your trunk, including my P239. I think you gave me a ride into Jersey to the dealership, but maybe we left your car parked and we took a taxi in, and then I gave you a ride back?
I’ve been thinking about you when recent threads had issues with flying with a gun, or what to do with a gun going into anti-gun states as part of a longer trip. I really appreciated your help, allowing me to have my Sig with me for the drive home.

yaniciI have senior moments sometimes as I approach my 80th trip around the sun. And then I... odd, I can't remember what I was going to say next.

Similar thing happened to my father-in-law back in the day.
He went to a dance, had a few beers, drove home. The next morning he looks out the window and notices someone else's car in the driveway. Similar make and model, different color, but his key opened it and started it.

LucnikMy doctor says it’s ok to have “senior moments “. Like forgetting where I put my car keys or why I went into a room. Perfectly normal. He said it becomes a problem when you forget what your car keys are for or don’t know whose or what room you’re in.
