iphone battery replacement - best source? Login/Join

Showing my ignorance, my iphone 8 needs charging after 1-2 hours use. Is that normal or is battery going bad? If advisable where can it best be replaced.

Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Repair Center.

But, my iPhone 8 company phone started dying really fast after the upgrade to iOS 14.5. For some reason the music app was doing a ton of background processing, but I have no music on this phone. I deleted the Music app and re-downloaded it from the App Store and that helped.

Apple store, set up an appointment, takes about an hour with an appointment and is $49 for them to replace it.

They're almost giving away iPhones right now it seems, why not just pick up an 11? They're so much nicer than the old button models.

I've had an 11 for 18 month now but I realized I could get a 12 Pro Max for effectively $2-3 more per month after I trade that 11 in.

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health

Under Battery Health, it tells you the maximum capacity your battery can take compared to a new battery. 70% needs to be replaced.

Best Buy was $50. I made the appointment via the apple website. The apple stores close by had weeks long waiting list.

I'm still using an iPhone 7+. It suits me just fine.

For 50 bucks I would definitely opt for a professional replacement. I'm not familiar with the 8, I replaced the batteries in both mine and my wife's 6s myself. Around $25 on amazon for a kit which includes the battery as well as tools for opening the phone. It's not difficult, but you do have to be really careful not to damage any ribbons and there are some *really* small screws inside. Even with the new(er) iOS you should be getting a lot more than a couple hours of use unless you're streaming HD non stop.

Most of my talks are with airpods or bluetooth hearing aids. Yes I am hard of hearing.

I wonder if there are some settings in there eating power. I have to depend on my son to set it up for me. But he is a Doctor 120 miles north.

Did you check Settings > Battery > Battery Health, as previously suggested?

Furthermore, you don't need to wonder. Further down, under Settings -> Battery will be a list of "Battery usage by app," in decreasing order of battery usage.

Just a couple days ago I noticed that the battery in my iPhone X was swelling, and pushing the display up out of the phone.

I used the Apple website to make an appointment at The Apple Store near me (Altamonte Mall).

Arrived at 12:48 pm for my 12:50 appointment. Was greeted promptly, shown where to stand in line, they required masks in the store so they gave me one.

Within minutes I was sitting at a table with a "Genius," who looked at the phone, did a bunch of tapping on his iPad, and asked me to sign authorizing them to replace the battery. I did so, was told to leave the phone and come back in an hour.

I had figured in advance that there might be a wait, so I had my Kindle with me. I killed the hour with a spicy chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A in the mall's food court, then found a comfortable place to sit and read the current novel on my Kindle.

Went back to The Apple Store at the appointed time, showed my ID, and they brought out my phone. They had replaced the battery and the speaker. Nominal cost for the battery replacement is $69.00 but they waived all charges, so I left with a like-new phone without spending one cent.

Everybody at the store, both contracted security people and Apple employees, were as polite, helpful, and respectful as they could be.

I am still a very satisfied Apple customer.

I had the same problem with my iPhone X just a couple weeks ago. I took my phone in at lunch from work and came back after work. They did not waive my $69 fee though that would have been nice.

It appears that the representative you deal with has quite a bit of latitude in the decision on whether or not to charge for the battery replacement.

I gambled on this and the demeanor that I presented was that of an older guy, politely asking for help with a problem. It worked.

My back-up stance, which I did not need to invoke, was "This is a known problem with the batteries supplied by Apple's source. Please escalate this problem, with a request for a no-charge fix." I had to use this one when I had a similar problem, swollen battery, on an Apple Watch. The rep first wanted to charge me, I asked him to escalate, he conferred with his supervisor and they agreed to do the fix at no charge. Interesting outcome, because instead of replacing the battery they replaced the Watch, with a catch: it was an older model Watch and they did not have any direct replacements in stock, so the replacement that they gave me was two generations newer. No charge. My take-away, ask politely for what you want and if it is at all reasonable, odds are that Apple will take care of you.

The phone battery was replaced in the store.

For the Watch, I used Apple support's "chat" to arrange a mail-in. They sent a mailing box to me via overnight FedEx, I had it the next day. Just put the watch in the box, applied the pre-paid shipping label that Apple supplied, the Watch went back to them, and I received the replacement two days later. All done at my convenience, actually less hassle than going to the store. Especially since this during the height of The Virus panic and the Apple Store closest to me was closed, so if I needed to go to a store it would have been on the south side of Orlando (I live on the north side), traveling through the never-ending construction on I-4.

Store or online, doesn't matter, Apple provides good service to their customers.

I had an experience similar to V-Tail, but with a Mac. They replaced the screen in an iMac twice. They were going to fix it the third time, and I asked to escalate it. They conferred for a moment among themselves, and then said they'd replace the whole computer. Two generations newer, no charge.
