After a couple benign practice days it looks like this Open might be yet another weather survival test. Seaside heavy air blowing with rain thrown in. That’ll test your mental game! Should be interesting for those who like golf. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

The British Open is the only major I don't watch. Perhaps it's the number of Links Golf courses that are played. I'd rather re-watch the Masters as the play & scenery can't be beat.

I love watching the British Open. It's like watching tour golf in a vacant lot. Very technical.

Links courses are the whole reason to watch the British Open. Especially in bad weather. That is golf for real men, not pimiento cheese sandwich and manicured rough golf. It is a different style of play. I like it. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

The Open is were you see what daft people were those first four Scotsmen who invented the game. Rather than stay inside a warm pub, with a warm pint of bitter, and a warming tumbler of single malt, they scrod it up by insisting a game of striking small balls with short sticks toward a hole in the ground be played outdoors, irrespective of weather, and over the course of four bloody days! Mad men, they were, utter mad men. Their next daft enterprise is to demand independence from Ireland. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Yeah, I guess the Masters and the US Open aren’t for real men.

The US Open never has manicured rough. They set their courses up for real golfers with narrow fairways and rough that is real trouble. The Masters . . . well, the only interesting part is putting on trick greens. Other than being in a nice garden. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

You nailed it. I've played Bandon Dunes in Oregon and The Links in Post Falls, Id. and the conditions are usually horrible. Try hitting a ball out of a pot bunker sometime. It's humbling. I’ve never played a true links course, just pseudo-links. You could still play ‘through the air’ if you wanted. I have played in gusts up to 50 and it was NOT fun. A day of punch shots does not make my wrist happy. At least this NI course is pretty much green as opposed to some of the brown dog track look some other venues have had. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

The Open (British Open) is really the only golf championship that I am interested in watching. I enjoy the courses and weather conditions reducing the professionals to mere mortal duffers.

I think if the weather gets bad and plays a significant role, we might be looking at the lowest winning total in a long time. I haven't paid any attention to the oddsmakers over there, but I think Koepka would be a good bet this year.

Pimiento Cheese spread is delicious on hot or cold sandwiches. Also try it on crackers, bruschetta, pita bread or other snacks. Bon appetit! "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Yeah, Koepka could do it alright. He's been on a tear lately. Spieth is another one to watch. He seems to do well on links style courses. The course is in great shape. This will be fun to watch. I enjoy watching links golf, and I LOVED the PGA Championship at Chamber's Bay in PAC NW. I enjoy these courses because they reward precision shooting and careful decision making and brutally punish reckless, careless, or ill-considered shots. These are courses you play to survive, not dominate. It's a totally different mindset than playing a stadium course where you get up on the tee box and rip it for all you are worth onto a wide fairway landing zone with a 4 inch cut rough. Strategy, decision-making, shot-making and mental toughness are the characteristics that are hardest to achieve in professional golf, not power. Links courses reward those qualities. You can't afford to get behind on a links course and then count on a "Sunday run" to carry you to the top of the leader board. You have to play your "A" game all 4 days. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."
