MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Democratic-backed candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court defeated a challenger endorsed by President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday, touting her victory as a win against powerful interests and cementing a liberal majority for at least three more years.

Susan Crawford, a Dane County judge who led legal fights to protect union power and abortion rights and to oppose voter ID, stood on stage surrounded by the court’s four current liberal justices and celebrated her win as a victory for democracy while also taking a dig at Musk.

“Growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never could have imagined that I would be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin,” Crawford said. “And we won.”

Scott Pressler has been talking about the importance of this race for months. Disappointing result to say the least.

Sorry guys, I did what I could. It shows that WI is tough, and I’m very thankful Trump was able to win by 30k or so votes.

The Crawdad campaign had much more $$, the majority from outside the State. Say what one wants, blanketing the market with ads about abortion, even when it’s not on the ballot works with ‘low information voters’.

With her winning, the Supreme Court stays as-is, 4 to 3 liberal majority. The sad thing is, the 4 are ‘activist’ liberals, all happen to be female. With republican majority in both state chambers, their plan is to steer court cases to change the law. They have already been doing it with the current 4-3 majority.

So here we are.

I understand that the voters also passed Voter ID which she opposed. That is a good thing, and indicates that the voters are less liberal than the court.

There's still hope for Wisconsin when Trump gets the economy roaring.

Is that true? Because the numbers I see say Schimel spent more, $58 million to Crawford's 48 million.

The spending on both sides was excessive. Way beyond diminishing returns. We got enough ads in the mail to build a cabin.

The anti-baby democrats were motivated and showed up. The not-my-problem republicans stayed on the couch (and will now whine for years).

Almost everyone likes voter-ID.

I realize a crazy amount of money was spent by both but I think the republicans spent more.
I guess the real winners from all the money spent were the various media.

Reading some of the comments, and watching video, it appears that many didn't care for Musk getting involved, even though Soros and Prickster put a lot of money in, they didn't go public about it.

I think the court was already lined up the way it ended up, so nothing changed at that level?

Funny that voter ID was approved and an anti voter ID judge was put in.

Would be interesting if someone challenged the ID vote/law and the court ended up dumping it, be a wake up call to WI

Said it before and will say it again R love to grab defeat from the jaws of victory...

Not here in FL though we kicked butt...

Oh yes the all encompassing 'powerful interest' group...and whom might they be?
Would it be the Open Society Foundation? Perhaps the Wyss Foundation? Ford Foundation? Tides Foundation? Hewlett Foundation?

Putting the just-passed Wisconsin voter ID requirement in jeopardy. The Dems don’t like it at all.

Yeah, I'm reading about it and some think it ain't Kosher.

"100,000 ballots with no downticket votes?? Where have we seen this before?"

"Something isn’t adding up. There are FAR more votes for the SCOTUS than for the Amendment. Meaning, a ballot dump was done where JUST the SCOTUS candidate was marked. I smell FRAUD."

"Ain’t fraud by mail wonderful."

"That would explain why they ran out of ballots................."

"Are you sure Demonicrat Susan Crawford didn't get 80 million votes?"

"Forget it Jake. It's Wisconson."

I’ll stand corrected, both spent over 40 million $$ on the race. The Republican may well of spent more.

Yeah, from what I'm reading on X and elsewhere, it is a repeat of shit in 2020.

Also election observers were denied close examination of the count, told by those in charge to sit in chairs away from the count, and not allowed to observe closely.

The voter ID was a constitutional amendment. Don't know if the supreme court can nullify it or not.

All this is just my guess as to why the right lost this Supreme Court race. Both sides had outside money pouring in basically equally. Sure, Soros is on the left pouring his money in, but he just hides behind the scene, while Musk was out there campaigning, offering his million dollars to some winners. So, imo, the left were successful in their messaging by demonizing the right accepting Musk's money. Like it or not, he became their whipping boy. "He's trying to buy the election". "Justice is not for sale". Gullible people bought into that narrative.

Call me a cynic but it sure seems that every election where a Demonrat wins is marked with irregularities. In this one is was sites running out of ballots for starters....

Add in that election irregularities rarely if ever benefit conservative candidates. Strange. Fact is legal or not Democrats generally dominate the ground game of elections imo.
