It’s too warm in the house right now and it’s a beautiful night. The family is inside watching the Blackhawks but I grabbed my radio and decided to sit on the patio.

The radio and the patio is something I rarely do but it got me to wondering, does anyone here still listen to a regular radio program excluding sporting events and sports talk radio?

As a kid I remember my dad spending a lot of time listening to the radio he bought while stationed in Germany. Usually a Cubs game.

I listen to syndicated AM talk radio at night, it's interesting and relaxing. And interviews and podcasts with physicists.

I used to listen to short wave radio when I was young, and my childhood best friend was a licensed CQ Ham at the time. We used to hang out in his back porch into the night while he tapped out his morse code using all of his hand-built Heathkit and Radio Shack equipment.

Radio over the air is special, there is no substitute.

There's something special about radio I think it'll outlast broadcast TV.

When I'm working down in the basement I listen to the radio all the time. Mostly local talk shows but sometimes country classics. I enjoy it.

I don’t know if this counts, but I listen daily to four classical music FM stations via their apps on my iPhone.
Classical California (formerly KUSC Los Angeles)
WQXR (NYC)
WRR (North Texas)
KING (Seattle)

I have an AM/FM radio in the barn. Normally I listen to the station that plays both kinds of music (Country AND Western), but on Saturday's in the Fall I'll listen to a good college football game while tinkering on something.

My “white noise” for background during sleep times is a local classical music radio station. Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn are good to drift off to; “1812 Overture” with real canons, not so much.

Yes, almost daily.

I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh in the garage and house, but since his death, I have not listened to radio at home. But in my cars, especially my everyday truck, I listen to radio all of the time, mainly KHYI "The Range", an excellent country station that plays "real" country music, not crap. And also WRR 101.1 for classical music, perhaps the one I listen to the most. And I occasionally listen to KEOM 88.5, a Mesquite high school station that plays 1970s top-40 hits as well as a bit of 80s. Great station.

Try the original War of the Worlds if you can find it, if you can’t get it on CD.

Via the internet, Mark Davis out of Dallas at 7AM CST and Mark Levin late afternoon on WABC-AM NYC. Still sitting next to me is my cool Tivoli Audio PAL radio I'd listen to Limbaugh on. Since his passing, it sadly gets almost no use.

Maybe it's getting old, I don't multitask as well as I used to, what I listen to now is more noise than anything. Some of it gets through but yeah, it's mostly noise.

We don't get any radio except one local station, due to the mountains.

Back last century before living here I always listened to AM radio at night. Everything from reruns of classic radio shows to Art Bell.

I miss Rush and Art Bell. Now I listen to pop and classic rock mainly. A little bit of talk radio, but there is so much doom and gloom on them, especially on our side.

I can only pick up one radio station out in my shop. It's an AM classic country station about an hour or so away. I can only pick it up during the daytime as they decrease their power at night down to 1000 watts and I can't pick them up. But, if I'm out in the shop it's on. Classic country with some farm/ranch news and the occasional football games.

A properly oriented long wire antenna would help reception. Long ago it was easy to find AM radios that had provisions for that.

Simply reorienting your radio might be enough because its built-in antenna is directional.

At your latitude wintertime AM reception ought to be excellent because of low QRN.

Although I work in Birmingham AL metro, I listen to a Montgomery talk radio station daily at work, through the TuneIn Radio website. The B'ham talk stations are garbage.

Sometimes at night, I'll listen to SWR4, a German radio station in Baden-Wurttemberg on the TuneIn Radio phone app.

I have a small shortwave receiver that I'll sometimes turn on and surf the frequencies to see what's playing.
