My phone is maxed out with pictures from our previous travels. I would like to save it on my laptop, then clear the pictures so I can take some new ones on our future trips. When I had my older iPhones, I was able to just plug in the cable to the phone, then to my laptop. But this iPhone 12 will not let me do that. It will not even open up when plugged into my laptop. Any special tricks or way on how to do this? _______________________ P228 - West German

Use the "Photos" app. Plug your USB cable in laptop and phone, and make sure your phone is unlocked. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

I tranfer all the pictures from my phone to Google Photos and then can view them on either my iPhone, iPad or desktop/laptop. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. The Image Capture app (included with macOS) transfers photos from phone to computer nicely. And you can transfer them to whatever folder on your computer that you want, rather than just to the Pictures app. Phone has to be plugged into the computer and unlocked. When in doubt, mumble

I do have older window version in my laptop. Is that the reason why? New iPhones will not work with older version of the windows? Sorry folks. Im not that technical. Maybe I should ask my son to give it a try using his newer laptop.

He would need the iTunes program to manage photos on his iPhone 12. Otherwise, he could probably just email them over.

Another route to consider. You can open texting on the iPhone, put your email in as the recipient of the message. Attach photos. Send. Go to your email on your laptop, open, view and verify photos, save them as jpeg or mov files on the laptop. This will work, but can be time consuming and cumbersome depending upon your internet speed and volume of photos.
