Any notice now when you send a USPS priority mail the clerk types in the address and shows it to you on their screen. You must verify it's correct.

The clerk told me that it will also print on my receipt (which only the state and zip code did not the whole address - which I recall was almost always the case with the computer system)

Another clerk said that anything the brass can do to keep the lines long and moving slow are always put into place Big Grin

I wonder why they are now required to enter the address ? Maybe something to do with the free insurance?

Despite that....I priority mailed a package recently and they verified the address was correct. It should be as the recipient has lived there 45 years and we regularly mail back and forth.

Week later the package is returned, beat to shit.Label on the face states..."No mail box at address". Which is total BS.

PO lady checks the address AGAIN and it comes up valid. Then she says....That will be $7.20!

What do You mean $7.20? YOU GUYS failed to deliver it THE FIRST TIME.

She was unmoved. So I walked out.

Gotta love the freaking mess that is our USPS system.

FN,

Did you hear about a year or so ago the US Inspector General did an investigation into a number of Post Offices here in Montana? They found the many Postmasters where intentionally slowing up the mail! Holding it so people would have work to do the next day or later in the week. Here in Eastern MT the local Post Office was not delivering the mail for weeks at a time. It would pile up at the Post Office.

Print your own labels and this won't happen. Hand the clerk the package, they confirm weight, scan it and hand you a receipt. Takes under 15 seconds for the clerk at my PO to do that.

Yup, Click-N-Ship. And, if you don't want the receipt, drop it off anywhere, or just have the mailman pick it up.

That's fine, while I wait for the customers in front of me that didn't do this. There is normally only one line open.

I always get a receipt JIC

NO . It's the same physical address he has had for 45+ years.

And YES to the mention of SLOW delivery here. I routinely get tracking and delivery will be stated as one day...Package will generally show up a day later. Have two supposed to be delivered Thursday...today. Neither showed up.

Guess we don't pay enough postage?

I haven't gotten mail in a WEEK, no first class, no junk mail NOTHING. In 4 years I haven't gone two days without getting SOMETHING. Today, I was excited as I got mail, it was my NEIGHBOR's! I texted them, they hadn't got any mail in awhile too. It was all Harbor Freight and ads and stuff, they checked to see if they had my mail, they had NO MAIL. I signed up to the mail imaging service to see if something is coming and its not showing anything expected. I think Amazon is killing the USPS by making them their own personal whores.

USPS doesn't want you in a post office anymore than you want to be there. Use Click-N-Ship and then schedule a pickup. You get a shipping discount for using Click-N-Ship, and pickups are free during your regularly scheduled delivery period. https://tools.usps.com/go/Sche...pAction!input.action

I recall hearing that the USPS had a data breach earlier this month that exposed account info of 60 million customers. FWIW.

We use Click-N-Ship almost exclusively. I notice when I fill in the recipient's address, it gets corrected to "official" USPS format, including the 9 digit zip, which I did not provide. We always schedule a carrier pickup, which is free, and much more convenient since we live 10 miles from the PO. An added benefit to carrier pickup is that she has to come to the house to get it, and she leaves all of our mail at the house at the same time, saving the 100 yard walk to the mailbox. Smile

Click-N-Ship is definitely the way to make this process easy, and you control the typing. I haven't paid for a priority package at the PO for a decade or more. As noted, if you want a receipt you still have to stand in line for them to scan, but that's all they'll do. Otherwise you can walk in, find the way to the empty slot in the row of unused stations where everybody else is dropping packages and add yours to the pile.

Easy peasy, other than the glares from schmucks standing in line like you used to do! Razz

I've been using Click-N-Ship for years.
Easy to set up the account, they send you the Priority Mail boxes for free and you just print out a label on your printer and stick it on with the wide clear tape you seal the box with. My PO has a counter area at the end where you just drop it off without any waiting.
I only use Priority Mail as it isn't really much more than Parcel Post and gets there quicker.
Fingers crossed but I've sent over a thousand items out in the last 3 years and not one has been lost or seriously damaged that way.

Wonder how / if this address information gets profiled into an account?

I did the olde click-n-ship on Monday and handed it personally to the mail carrier person. Said letter would arrive on Thursday of this week. The letter did not leave post office until Thursday and now will arrive on Saturday of Monday. I could have just put a 50 cent stamp on it and it would have gotten there sooner.

Most post offices have a box to drop them in. I've never had to wait.

Why would you use click N Ship for a standard letter?
