I'm probably worse about impulse buying online than when in the store.

They’ve been doing this for some time now, and it’s been convenient for me. Wally World is a short 10 minute drive from the house

One (of the two) Wal-Marts near me converted some prime parking space to five dedicated, drive through pick-up lanes. I didn't know Wal-Mart did that much ship-to-store business. I've only seen two cars in the lanes at any one time.

I've ordered a few items for home delivery. Delivery was fast and inexpensive.

I have been getting free two-day shipping to my home from Walmart on some items.

I have used the buy online and pick up at store a few times, usually when they have what I want but don't want to wait for Amazon. And to minimuze my time in the store as much as possible. One thing I hate, that if they fixed would lead to me shopping with them more, is their terrible website. I have literally bought from Amazon even though Walmart had a better price because their website is horrendous to navigate. A few clicks on Amazon and whatever I want is on the way, vice that patheticly difficult site Walmart has. David Lightman could have designed a better website way back in 1983!

I was really impressed with the Wal-mart ship to store pickup process. I have used it about 3 times so far, and I have had to wait no more than a minute to get the item. Works really well.

My wife works for Target and they have "Drive Up" which is freaking awesome. You order on your smart phone, they let you know when its ready, and as you pull into the parking lot, you use the app to let them know you are there and they literally walk the item out to your car 15 seconds later. Its amazing. I've ordered at least 10 times and every single time I notify them that I am there, they bring my items out within 30 seconds. I don't know how they do it, but I'm literally in the parking lot for less than a minute.

And I know that Target is going after Amazon big time. Starting next year, they are going to have same day delivery or next day delivery to almost every address in the lower 48, which is better than Amazon two day shipping. They are hiring an entire fleet of delivery drivers, order pickers, and using store employees to deliver packages in the community.

When you think about it, Amazon has like 100 warehouses to ship from, while large brick and mortar retailers like Wal-mart and Target have thousands and thousands of stores all across the country. If they use local stores as fulfillment centers for online orders, they can compete and take business from Amazon, and beat them at their game, with faster deliveries from local stores.

I've wondered for a while if Amazon might buy say Sears just for the fulfillment center aspect.

saved around $9 on two Ozark Trail 30oz tumblers from amazon. $6 more as they fell just below the $25 free shipping - so $15 saved.

Shame on you. Whatever is tacky and funny about Walmart customers you can't beat Walmart for whatever you need - Groceries, Beer, Duct Tape, Motor Oil, office supplies, underwear, Ammunition, and DIAPERS. It doesn't get better than that for one-stop shop and the best prices in town. When my daughters were small, I bought all that stuff, these days I still buy all that stuff except diapers. I love me some Walmart.

But some here are correct that picking up free ship to store is a shit show, that's the way it has been for me. But I don't go in to pick up if I'm not willing to be entertained for 30 minutes. I enjoy analyzing the shit show itself with a little mental time and motion and IT analysis. You get what you hire. If you don't have a sense of humor doing that then shop at Amazon. Home Depot is almost like that sometimes for ship to store operations.
