Longtime SF favorite, lowest price ever.

If you’ve been on the fence about getting best cooking thermometer made, now is the time to jump.

I got lucky and saw this yesterday. My older thermapen was acting strange, errors and weird negative readings so I happened to check out prices. This is a great deal.

These go to eleven.

Thermopen will repair yours for a $25 flat fee (The Price I paid 18 months ago).

Thermopen Repairs Link

I'd like to have a 2nd one. One to leave at home, one to take with me because I get requests Hey Can You Bring Your Thermopen Because We Want To See It Work, and when I visit I want my food cooked properly.

I love my MK4! I’ve used several over the years and there is a reason why these are the best.

Thanks, been wanting the upgraded one.

$81.21 landed, including tax and shipping.

Worse than buying SIGs.
Just ordered two Mk IVs just to have around for gifts.
Ordered one Chef Alarm to give someone, just because we use ours so much (e.g. for bread-baking).

I've been using Thermowork's DOT and DASH now for quite some time. Can't justify adding a Mk IV even at this price.

Thanks for the link! Mine has been acting weird as well. It will sometimes go blank once the probe is inserted, almost like it crashes when it's tying to update. It eventually works, but now that I know I can get it fixed I'll be doing just that. Now that I've ordered a MK4 I'll have a second to use while the old one gets repaired. I've wanted to get one that's waterproof and backlit for a while now... so buying one at this price was a no brainer.

One of the most overrated tools made. I am on my third one and like it but I recently bought a $12 dollar cheapie that’s just as quick and just as accurate and I use both all the time to make sure I’m getting an accurate reading.

Well isn't that special.

Apparently the Mk IV is being discontinued...
New model comes soon... right after I finally break down and upgrade to the Mk-4 Roll Eyes

Snip from e-mail:
Q: Why are you closing out the Mk4? Isn’t it the world’s best?
A: The Mk4 is in fact widely rated #1 and is the world’s best and fastest cooking thermometer. But something big is coming!

Q: Are there any problems in the Mk4?
A: No. The Mk4 is the world’s best.

Q: Will there be a Mk5 Thermapen?
A: There will be something new and amazing.

Q: What could you possibly do to improve on the Mk4?
A: The full story is coming very soon. It will be worth it!

Q: If I want the new product, shouldn’t I wait until it’s been on the market for awhile so all the bugs are worked out?
A: What’s coming is indeed a big advance but we’ve been working on it for nearly six years. The production line is running. Everything has been tested like crazy. This will be our most solid product launch ever. We’ve been making Thermapens for decades. We know a lot about this. I wouldn’t wait.

Q: Can’t you tell me anything about the new product?
A: Yes we absolutely can on the day the announcement is made. It is coming fast.

I’m not one to buy into hype. I used my original thermapen until I got the deal in the OP. Even though the MK4 has features I really wanted (display flips for left handed use and backlit). If it does what I need I can wait on new bling.

These go to eleven.

If anyone is balking at the the price of the Mk4 or Classic, I can recommend their Thermopop as a cheaper alternative. It doesn't get the love that the others do but I'm very happy w/ mine.
I have not done a side by side test w/ the Classic I use at work or my Mk4 I have at home but I don't notice a difference in the speed of the readings.

I got the same email about something else coming out and I sure am curious. As someone who uses a Classic at work and Mk4 at home, one weak point for electronic devices is drops onto hard floors. They make a rubber "boot" to help w/ that so I will mention the other concern.
Debris or foreign material getting into the innards of the device if you are having to immerse the probe/stem as far as you can to get a deeper reading into something. This doesn't come into play while checking our silver dollar rib-eyes w/ protection but for other things it does require a bit more attention at keeping the pivot area clean before closing the stem/probe.

I like the Mk4 for the auto backlight, AAA battery, and sleep/wake mode. The rotating display has actually irritated me a few times when it flips just as I'm reading it. But unless I'm mistaken, that can even be turned off, so, yeah, the Mk4 is a nice unit.

That reminds me of another feature of the Mk-4 that I didn't see mentioned...

Water Resistance IP 66/67**

Protected from dust and immersion in water to 39” depth for up to 30 minutes. The probe should not be rotated while the body is submerged or under a stream of water.

Ive had mine for a few year now- its absolutely solid. Ive dropped it, left it out in the rain and sun a few times, battery lasts forever- and its still looks damn near new. Dont even think about it, just buy it. I dont know what the new one is going to be, but I cant imagine what they needed to improve on.

What's your cheapie? I'm open to the possibility of something better, but I've build a house out of the corpses of cheap thermometers to house my Thermopen and while cheapies work okay at first, buying $12 dollar cheapies that die every year AND using the Thermopen to verify the temp is only worth it after year five. My current Thermopen was bought eight years ago and still going strong.
