I have a 2010 Toyota Camry with ~64K miles on it. Lately upon start up, a Maintenance Required light flashes eight times then goes away. Car seems to be running okay. Your thoughts on this please. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, MGO Annual Member

Not a mechanic but you should go to AutoZone or similar and have them run a obdii scan on it (free). Then go from there.

I can't think off hand of why you've apparently never seen this light before, but this is a maintenance (oil change and inspection of certain items) reminder light. It comes on (most models) every 5000 miles. It blinks as you approach this interval. When the 5000 miles is hit, it will come on and stay on. Since it doesn't know when you've serviced the car, it has to be manually reset. This is all in the owner's manual. ![]()

This or you could buy one of these OBDII scanners for yourself and have it available any time a check engine light pops up. Regardless, pull any codes the car might be throwing and go from there. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. Look in your owners manual and see if you at the mileage that they recommend a maintenance procedure. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Hey, Warhorse. It's a maintenance reminder. There's a thread on ToyotaNation about it. Don't sweat the OBDII scanner -- the Maintenance light is different from the MIL (multifunction indicator light). You'd need the OBD tool to clear the MIL. Ex-Mrs' Camry had a list of blink codes in its owner's manual. IIRC, the manual also describes the sequence for clearing that, in the case that you've done the service on your own (or at some place other than a Toyota dealer). Here's a quickie link for another description of that sequence. God bless America.

Thanks vthoky! I'll use that to reset it in the morning. I did just have the oil changed at a quicky lube not to long ago. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, MGO Annual Member
