I have retired from the military and federal civil service. I like to discuss options, pitfalls, etc. with someone off line by phone.

Keep in mind the Feds support a program in e every state where an impartial advisor will help you evaluate the best options. For example, in Florida it's called SHINE and in Nevada it's called SHP. They all do outreach so shouldn't be too hard to find in your state.
My wife has worked for a couple of the programs and some of them do a really good job. Big thing is its impartial.
I also know it's important to make your initial choice correctly because some options are a "one chance" option. You take a pass now because you don't need all it has to offer today and you can't choose it in future years when you might really need it.
