or know someone that will, i need a small HUGE favor.

As the weather is turning to beautiful and our economy sinks while i type this, exchange rate couldn’t get any better for tourists and the Holiday season approaches, it’s tourist paradise.
Us chickens are so screwed… General Elections in a few days, need i say more?

But i digress.

My single Bucket List Project involves restoring my 1978 ESS AMT 1a speakers. I need and can’t procure by myself, a pair of diaphagms that can be bought online for less than a C bill each.
Local restrictions prevent me from importing them. Would gladly pay cash. Been trying to fix these speakers since my teens.

Thanks for reading.

If there is a way other than a trip?
I always loved those speakers.
Wish I could help you.

If there is, haven’t figured it out yet.
Bought the speakert when i was 18. Beaten demo pair at a store in Brussels, Belgium.
Held onto them through all the ups and downs in my life.
When i started visiting the US more regularly the internet didn’t exist and i was into music and computer parts and books. Didn’t even think of the speakers, a lost cause. Still i didn’t get rid of them.

Our currency is sinking so fast. So the politicians have no better explanation than to blame those who spend hard currency for the employment lost and the dollar “going up” like a diver’s fart.

Using a CC for international purchases is calling for all kinds of trouble on top of additional punishing taxes and aggravation.
Not worth it.

On the other hand, tourists are not bothered at all. Can stick a slice of bread at each end of an elephant and call it a meat sandwich and nobody will blink.

With our insane economy, looking at the price of those parts is a heartbreaking tease. 45 years and counting.
But for good xovers, the rest can be restored locally.

Most generous offer, fenris. Thank you very much.

Wish i had the parts you linked as well but i am referring to a pair of these:

These are the vocal chords of the tweeter.

Unfortunately, receiving gifts is another can of worms. Our Customs get involved and a bunch of other administrative nightmares follow closely. Must declare value, pay taxes, other taxes and unexplainable fees are added and the list goes on. They treat it just as if i had the stuff imported myself. Cost would be at least the price of the ribbons.
System designedw to discourage people from buying abroad.

nhtagmember sent me an Operation COVID clusterfuck patch a few years ago. The item arrived to Customs in 4 days and i received a form to declare the contents of the package and pay taxes the following day. Did so. Payed for the full price of the patch. Then it took 21 days to be delivered.

Love my patch but the experience reassured that the process is engineered to discourage using it.

Not a Customs issue it’s a political decision.

Hand delivered is the only way.

Again, much appreciate the offer.

Well that's too bad.

Say, did you ever solve your book problem?

LOL. Wish i remember when was the last time i had a book in hand and the peace and quietness to enjoy it. My sight has gone south with age and i only got glasses to see the world and other pair to use at computer/iron sights distance. None are fit as reading glases.

Will keep this thread alive for a while….

If someone's going, I have some speaker crossovers of Nicky's to go along. We got the ESS factory to custom make them for Nicky years ago, and had them sent to me in NC.

We just haven't gotten a way to deliver to BA. Frown

Missed two opportunities already, SF members visiting BA. I blame poor comms. Not wanting to jinx it a third time, will skip the Xovers and bet on the thin, discrete and easy to bring ribbons.

It’s absolutely risk free and legal. Always has been, for tourists. Have been for the past 30+ years at least… Big Grin Restrictions apply exclusively for us (native) chickens.

Ballotage coming up in a few days.
The Opposition managed to fuck up big time so they are out of the picture and divided into complete uselessness.
Traditionally, my country was bi-partisan. World known Peronists and lesser known Radicals (just a fancy name for lukewarm center socialists. As moderate as you can imagine).

Radicals inner divisions made them lose until they got overtaken by a center right coalition. The one that just exploded. Together they managed to win the elections years ago. Then back to current “Peronists “. Actually, these are “Kirshnerists”. They picked upthe Peronists flags and donned their skins to drive the country in some sort of Venezuelian style shithole of a country.

Our two candidates are now the Kirschnerist Massa , current Minister of Finance (enough said) and the wacky Milei. He is ignorant of too many social and political issues to be president and certainly, as sprung from the last rain, not enough manpower to take significant control of the situation, IMO.

Adopting a YOLO attitude towards this and the future.
