Hammer, meet nail. You can bet there are a lot of folks on the force that feel the same way after a pussy move like that. As long as you’re not breaking the law or violating rights NEVER let the turds dictate how you do business.

It’s a 2017. How long would a typical car stay in the fleet? Was it dumped early or not?

Our school resource office drove a “DARE Car” covered in anti-drug messages. It was raffled off to a student and I don’t think it was that old.

When I started in LE, we got rid of cars at 70k miles...

Then some bean counter chimed in and we kept cars to 100k...

When I retired, the cars had over 100k and were not retired until the garage told the PD it was time...

They extended the lifetime of the cars to use the car money in the budget for other stuff...that went on for ten years or so and the fleet became junkers...

The only good cars were the one staff drove to and from home.

In the recent New Jersey shooting the terrorist used a rented Ryder truck (again), you'd think we would have learned by now and make rented Ryder trucks illegal.

Our county just got rid of the last of their 2011 (last year of the Crown Vic) Crown Victoria’s. I would hope they keep their cars longer than 3 years.

The National Criminal Justice Research Service did extensive research into the lifecycle replacement of patrol cars. Police package vehicle are pricey due to a lot of special order electrical, suspension, and cooling system add-ons, not to mention tires. Replacement depends upon a number of factors. Mileage is an important one. If your cruisers are driving 40k miles per year, for example, the car depreciates at 10 percent per quarter and maintenance costs trend upward. Those vehicle have some wholesale value for resale unless they are run below zero value, which is another factor. Basically when the cost of maintaining the vehicle outweighs the cost of buying a new one you buy a new car. Departments with a personal crusier program have more outlay to but the cars initially but the cars last much longer than cars that are run hot seat for multiple shifts. SUV's on truck frames have become more cost effective in the long term because of the solid bones of the vehicle. They are also safer for the officer and they are damn sure more roomy with all the crap we are putting into those cars nowadays.

We still have a few 2008/09 Crown Vics on daily patrol granted they are working nights with the new guys.
Though most that age have been moved to pool/loaner cars.

I currently have a 2013 Taurus. I am in the top 10 to get one of the 53 new Tahoes they ordered so I should have mine by summer.

My 2013 will go through at least 2 more officers presuming it does not get wrecked.

That Challenger was not being used on Patrol so it has at least a decade or service left. They are just choosing to do this to say hey look at us.
If not they would have never mentioned it was being dead lined.

What a waste and way to let some SJW’s dictate your cruiser fleet.

We used to get rid of our cruisers around 75,000-80,000 miles. Then some bean counter at city hall and IIRC a tightwad city council member decided 100,000 miles or a little more. They quickly turned into piles!!! City driving w/ some highway and sometimes getting a shift or two off for a break otherwise most of them are “hot seated”.

Now they are spending money on warranties to 100,000. I do not know if that is cost effective.
