Any appliance advice would be helpful. Dishwasher is about 6 years old. It’s a GE. Last few washes it seems like the water is not as hot and the dishes not nearly as clean as usual. We ran it on “light wash” and when I opened the door and the detergent packet had barely disolved. I thought it might be the water heater running out of hot water but there is still plenty. Thoughts?

Newer "high efficiency" washers need as much help as possible with the hot water. I used to always run the hot water in the sink faucet in order to flush out the cold water from the line so that the DW would basically get hot water from the start. Also, if you have soft water, you need to use less detergent. Also helps to make sure your hot water heater setting is high enough.

Make sure that there is nothing blocking water from spraying into the detergent dispenser.
Dittos on running hot water in the adjacent sink so the DW gets hot water from the get go.
I've been using Cascade Complete after trying those pouches. The wife says the dishes are cleaner.

Also check your drain filter. They get clogged and will not allow the DW to work as well (dirty dishes). Most newer machines are easier to remove and clean, older machine not so easy. Chris

I run a dishwasher cleaner block every year. Jus t a plastic bottle you place in the bottom rack upside down with NO dishes. I make sure the water heater is putting out 125 degrees with a meat thermometer. I don't like it hotter for scalding concerns with little ones.

Thanks Chris, I will check this ASAP. This seems like the most likely culprit since nothing else has changed in the setup.

If you have very hard water, try adding white distilled vinegar in the first water fill and let it run to help remove calcium deposits.

I clean our dishwasher about every year. An important part are the swing arms. Crud gets in and blocks them. Th filter screen and the drain also need cleaning.
Check the water flow to the upper rack. Sometimes the piping gets bumped and the water doesn’t get there.

Buy some Lemishine and fill the detergent dispenser with that.
Run a heavy duty cycle with no dishes.
It will clean all the deposits out of all the nozzles and the dishwasher will run like new again.
If clogged jets is your issue.

Luck,

Bruce

Found the manual here:
https://www.geapplianceparts.c...ssembly/GLD4408R00WW

The manual doesn't mention a filter. Seems the outbound water flow only goes to the little drain air thing on the sink. Guess I'll check that for good flow.
