Along with potentially replacing my wife's 105k miles Ford Flex, we're considering getting out of my Mercedes as well.
Love the car, but slightly underestimated the running costs of it. While not significant, we're thinking about moving to a more economical daily driver.

Browsed a bit over the weekend & came across a few that could fit the bill.

2017 Subaru Impreza Limited
Lots of tech, adaptive cruise & their eyesight package. Had a lower trim Impreza rental in CA earlier this year & was pretty impressed with it.

2016/7 Honda Civic Touring
Similarly equipped to the Subaru.
Have had multiple Hondas in the past & aparts from the 'glass' transmission in my '00 TL, they've all been really reliable.

Anything major to be aware of on either?

Yes, I'm aware that both are going to be a step backwards in performance & both have the CVT autos.
Haven't driven the Honda CVT, but was pretty impressed with the Impreza rental mentioned above, definitely didn't have the terrible CVT feeling I'd seen before in Nissans.

I've seen some mention of a fuel/oil issue on the 1.5T Hondas, but haven't had a real chance to research a lot on it. Anyone have a cliff notes version of what to be aware of?

IIRC the L & K series Honda engines are chain driven.

Done my share of timing belts in prior D & J series Hondas.

Pardon a thread drift, but that reminds me, we used to have a member named, IIRC, Imprezza Guy. He had an Imprezza.

I think he was a young man, was a police officer then started a career as a photographer. I think he was in the Carolinas.

Just wondering what happened to him.
