1652 days quit. That equates to: 4 years, 192 days, 7 hours since my last cigarette. 24,784 cigarettes avoided $10,757 money saved Yes, I have an app that I look at daily to remind myself to never, ever, ever, “just have one” as that sounds the death knell.

I quit 10 years ago, and while I wouldn't call it a craving, I do think about it once in a while. Still, I think that if I gave in, and had "just one", it'd be all over, and I'd be addicted again. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." My father smoked and quit when I was about 10 yrs old. When I started he tried to explain to me how stupid I was. One thing he told me was you never quit cigs, you just avoid them for the rest of your life. There is a sliver of truth in that. When I'm under stress I still think about stepping out and having a puff or two.

After Many years of smoking, and then due to a sudden medical issue, I had my last cigarette at 2:08pm on May 23, 2021. Only two years so far, and I still have cravings… But as others have said, one smoke now and I’d be hooked again.

Quitting is much easier than what all the ads for cigarette alternatives would have you believe. I tried the patches for years and all they did was maintain my addition to nicotine. On January 25, 2012 I finally got fed up and quite cold turkey. Withdrawal went on for only 4 days and it wasn't that bad. After those 4 days anytime I was tempted to have a smoke I just thought to myself "300 dollars a month". Because that is what smoking cost me. Since then that 300 dollars a month has allowed me a nice collection of handguns and shotguns and what pays for my shooting competitive Skeet. I've stopped counting.

I smoked my last cigarette at about 4 p.m. on July 18, 2010. "America is at that awkward stage. Me too. I was stationed in the UK at the time and I calculated that the money I was saving would allow me to purchase something as a reward. It turned out to be a P220.

A friend of mine was addicted to heroin. He de-toxed while in federal prison. He was also a cigarette smoker. He told me that quitting cigarettes was much tougher than kicking the heroin addiction. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

I quit 1/11/90. Cold turkey. 1-2 packs a day. I still smoke occasionally in my dreams. One reoccurring dream I realize I’m smoking look in my pocket and there is a partial pack of cigarettes.

Congrats to all who have quit. I smoked for 50+ years, but I had to quit cold turkey. I got sent to ICU, and you would not believe how much they frown on smoking in ICU. ![]() Rod "Do not approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction." One of the hardest things I've done. Started smoking in the Navy as an 18 yo. Soon was smoking two+ packs a day. Camels, lucky Strikes, Philip Morris (see the theme, no filters.) At least one pack when I was on night shift, more when I woke up. Continued on after the Navy, but I move up to filtered Marlboros (gotta stay healthy you know /sarcasm) Continued until I was 40 some years. Decided it was enough and just one day, tossed the stash, toughed it out for a month or so and never looked back. It was a bitch. Best of luck to anyone starting this journey. The upside, when I had my lung surgery 5 years ago, my wife asked if my lungs were healthy. Surgeon said, looked like I never smoked. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

Excellent work! I just recently surpassed 5 years since I escaped the nicotine demon — I had a can a day of Copenhagen habit. I don’t miss being a slave the that poison in the slightest. Here’s to the next 10, OP! _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.

I drove trucks. After each delivery I would reach into my shirt pocket for a cig. For a long time after I quit I would stick my hand in an empty pocket for a smoke. I would leave work and sometimes I would get to the first traffic light and my left foot was looking for the clutch pedal. ![]()

I smoked a couple of packs a day and quit cold turkey Feb 4, 2009. I still crave those damned things from time to time. “Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.” ― Ronald Reagan Retired old fart

Congratulations. My last cig was March 1, 2001. I had unsuccessfully tried 3 times prior to that. I loved smoking but quit when we had kids. I didn't want them around it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
