If you see me running try to keep up |
I have been using Trim for a few years now, you sign up, give them your account login info and they negotiate your plan for you. They will get you refunds for outages and will negotiate better rates. The last couple years they have been able to lower my bill (by a small amount, maybe $20) before the one year deal I sign up for is over, that time when they jack the rates up. I have had the triple play with Comcast for a few years, I do not even use the cable but it gets me cheaper rates. Today I got a text they were negotiating my rates and they asked if I would go to a plan with only internet and phone and I agreed (you have to agree before they change anything on your account). I'm going from 800 to 1200mbs with VOIP phone (doing away with cable) and they cut my monthly bill in half for a savings of $90 per month. Trim gets 25% of savings, gets charged to a credit card. I will gladly pay that since I do not have the patience to do it myself. I suppose I could do it myself but this is another thing I choose to let others do and use my time elsewhere. Thought it might be handy for those of you that do not like dealing with Comcast. FYI they will also negotiate credit card rates and other stuff but I have only used them for Comcast. https://www.asktrim.com Trim

Good to know. I was on a promotion paying $50/mo for 100mbps. The promotion was about to end, so I started looking around on their website and found a deal: agree to a two-year term and get 700mbps for $60/mo. I pounced on that, but will keep this in mind once this promotion expires. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I’ve been shopping Comcast in anticipation of the install coming to my street soon. Things I recall from before: take a screen shot of the details of the plan you sign up for. Have it in writing because 2 year deals quickly become 3 months if you can’t prove it. Also clear your browser history when searching for new deals. Pick “new customer moving to address” if you have to. They like to hide current deals from existing customers. I’m too cheap to pay someone 25% to find the deals. These go to eleven.

I just sign up for th new customer promotion, lock that in for however long they'll let me. When that promo expires, I call in and cancel and then sign up for the newest promo using my wife's name. We just switch back and forth. When I shop for promos, I shop using my cell phone using the cellular network. They serve up different deals based on your IP address, and they obviously can tell if it's their own IP. I buy my own modem so there's no hassle in returning equipment when I "cancel" my plan.

Good point. I do the same thing. Comcast, AT&T, and others are staffed by unscrupulous liars. Years ago, I signed up for a two-year deal with Dish Network. About 6 months later they increased the rate. When I complained, they wouldn’t budge. I said “OK, cancel my service”. The rep actually said the two-year commitment was binding on me but not them. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

That rug really tied the room together. |
I pay the huge monthly sum of $9.99 for 50MB speeds at Comcast. Best deal going. I'm cheap, and thats all I need. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bubbatime, ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

I assume you mean MB. But yeah, last time I had Comcast 50 MB was the fastest speed. It was $90 and it was fine for just about everything but hardcore gaming. Now I should be getting 1.2 GB for the same $90. These go to eleven.

Is there a disruption of service when you switch back and forth between you and your wife?

No, not really. I schedule cancellation for a future date, and set up new service on that same date. On that day, I preemptively call tech support, let them know the situation, and just have them provision to the new account using the MAC address and the other number (I can't recall the name, ASN or something?) from my modem. I stay on the line with them until its up and running. I'm on COX, but I imagine Comcast is the same. On their end, the tech gets all sorts of line level data. Just read them the umpteen digit string of numbers that identifies your particular device, and they can assign service to that device, and tell you specifically the strength of the connection from that device to your network.

Got my updated internet connected, I can get used to these speeds. My iPhone 12 was 200 Mbps download/16 Mbps upload before and now at 450/35. My MacBook was 278 down/18 up before and now 703/41. Not bad for half of what I was paying before. Now I will have to watch closely next year when my contract is up and see what Trim can do to keep these rates/speeds.
