It seems that the gun monkey's at a nearby farm have found out about tannerite. I've heard disposable income dissipating four nights out of the last seven. Not extended session by any means, one big or two small blasts and done Not so close as to hear the gun shots, but no mistaking the splosions Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. July 4th is less than a week away. Are you sure it's tannerite going off after being struck by a bullet instead of fireworks? Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

Exploding tannerite sounds different from, say, pipe bombs constructed of pvc?

If you're going to the trouble of making a pipe bomb, what's the point of using PVC? So the embedded shards don't show up on X-ray?

No. PVC wouldn't be quite so damaging, I wouldn't think. Maybe "pipe bomb" was too emotionally charged. How about "pvc cherry bomb?" Make the firecracker, place in hole, light a longish fuse, go hide in the barn kind of thing. But, the question remains, is tannerite so distinctive that the sounds the OP is hearing could not be some such homemade firecracker?

PVC will still show up on x-ray-----not as distinct as metals but still visible. You mean they won't trip the mag-detectors at airports like the ceramic Glocks! ![]() "No matter where you go - there you are"

Forget pvc. Let's go with 1/4 stick dynamite. Will that explosion sound different from tannerite? Assuming the quantity of tannerite will create an explosion equivalent to the dynamite.

I asked about the splosions on the local Facebook page. Since no one reported power outages, we ruled out transformer failures. Then someone posted the Tannerite explanation. Sure doesn't sound like any fireworks that I've heard, It's been 50 years since I've heard black powder, But it didn't sound like that either. ( From what I remember anyway). Ahh! The fourth of July! I had so much fun over the years with explosives. I'm done with it and I have all my fingers. Maybe the occasional bang just to let the neighbors know I'm still alive.
