Most of us long term guys would tease the hell out of each other.
you needed thick skin to work with us. It was all in good fun.
Some of the younger guys we knew to leave alone.

30 years ago, we could. Today, no - you don’t prank people who don’t even know what their gender or pronoun is. Liberals are humourless.

Well, we are all truck drivers and plant workers. We know what our gender is.

occasionally, for those that can take a joke, or need it.

(don't ask me why I know that it takes approx 60 cu feet of Styrofoam packing peanuts to fill a 90's Chevy Monte Carlo to the roof.)

No. I think pranking co-workers is horribly unprofessional and childish.

Pranking good friends you have known for thirty years? You're no fun.

There is a difference between pranking good friends versus mere co-workers. I also noticed that typically, pranking good friends tend to be more benign and in good spirits. Pranking co-workers almost always seem to be mean-spirited. It seems a lot of people use the excuse of "pranking" co-workers to justify acting like an asshole.

I have been known to send a humorous email from your account if you don't log out. Generally something that's obviously in good fun. No point in being mean.

No, although I have played harmless ones in the past, in a workplace where everybody did it to everybody else. At a different workplace, a co-worker was having difficulty installing an oil pan on an engine and was quite frustrated. After he finally got it together, filled with oil and running, he left it untended for a moment. Another co-worker took this opportunity to pour oil on the floor under the area he had just worked on. Although it did work itself out in the end, I took the guy aside and said, "Don't you even think about pulling that shit on me." I don't prank any more.

I think you misunderstood me. All the pranks were between the old guys. There was never anything mean spirited.
We didn't do anything to the new guys until they had been there for years and become friends.
nothing malicious, just having fun. We are not assholes. Try to build up comradery.

Never would do anything like that. Just silly things that would mess with their minds until we would laugh at them and
let them in on the joke. They did it to me too!

No, I work with a bunch of kids (mid 20's to early 30's). And they are a bunch of whiny bitches.

They don't comprehend male comradery. They think they are being bullied.

They don't understand why I despise millennials and Gen Z.

Not only that, pranks are frowned on by management when you are the supervisor Razz

Early in my working days, being pranked felt like a right of passage and being fully welcomed into the group. I think today, pranking someone would get you a quick meeting in the HR department. If you are lucky.

At one point all our patrol cars were keyed alike. The idea being that everybody got their own key and if you got locked out, your buddy could unlock your car.
So:
If you radioed you were out on foot, someone would beeline to where your car was parked. They would then drive it off and hide it. You walk back to the car and.... Its gone! Frantic search ensued. Every aspect of this fun would invoke the wrath of the sergeant if it was discovered.

One of my buddies lived in a large apartment complex on my beat and owned a Trans Am. His car alarm used a system that transmitted a silent alarm via a pager. The entire shift would sneak into the complex and conceal themselves where they could see the T/A and I would shake the car and then hide. 45 seconds later, our buddy would come running out of his building in his skivvies waving a gun to rescue his car. Hilarious! As soon as he went back to bed, repeat the process.
Unintended Consequence: It did not take the T/A owner long to figure out we were screwing with him. His alarm activated one night and he looked out his window in hopes of catching us shaking the car. He saw his dome light was on and he thought one of us was in his car. When he got to the car, he surprised an actual thief inside. When he grabbed the thief, he got knocked out with a coin filled tube sock. The thief had looted the change from other cars in the lot and filled the sock with the coins. Made an effective blackjack! After this incident, we took pity on him and left his car alone.

In start up medical electronic companies, pranking was normal and expected.

When you're working under that much stress and those kind of hours, you need something to let it out.

People were graded for creativity.

No because the last few years I worked too many people got to visit HR for some of the lamest reasons.

At that time my only concern was getting the hell out.
