Seems that my 2001 Toyota Avalon, 292,689 miles, will require more repairs than the value of the car. Maybe the dealer will buy it for parts, probably not... I never have disposed of an old car before. Any advice on how to sell/give it to a junkyard, or donate. How to tranfer the title? Does the donee pay tax? Any advice is appreciated as this is new for me. Location is app Aistin, TX. PS, I am avoiding cars4kids. 1- Use Backhoe to dig Avalon sized hole. 2- Place Avalon near the hole. 3- Fill Avalon with Tannerite. 4- Shoot Avalon until it explodes. 5- Using Backhoe, push wreckage into the hole. 6- Cover hole with Backhoe. 7- Plant garden over hole. Problem solved! And you gained a nice garden. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Donate it. Even if it is not running they will come by and take it away and leave you with a donation receipt that is tax deductible. Simple! Easy peasy. Give a worthy organization a call. Here are 3 in your area but there are many others as well: https://www.wheelsforwishes.org/austintexas/ https://www.kars4kids.org/car-...gn=Austin_TX&acp=234 https://www.austinhabitat.org/donate-a-car

Donate it to charity for the tax write off. You could also post it on craigslist for a low price or call a scrap yard and get $200-300 for it. My dad had to get rid of a car that the charities would not take. I think it had a salvage title. He took it to an auto junkyard. I pretty sure he had to drain all fluids first and maybe also remove the vin tag.

I'm not offering any more ideas until our member who asked about getting rid of his old boat finally comes back and tells us what the hell he did. #disappointingclimax You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Thank you Very little |
If it runs, put it on craigslist, there is a big shortage of sub $2K priced cars out there and a huge market for people who can't afford or don't have credit to finance, cash on the barrel head. Or donate it, to the charity you wish.

I suggest not doing what I did. I had an old Park Avenue, it ran good, just a little tired looking. I started using a company vehicle so I parked it at work, on the back lot. Figured it would be safe there till I figured out what to do with it. I was driving back from lunch one day and saw this. They said oops, sorry. They mistakenly thought it was one of the old junk trade ins I did laugh my butt off btw

Do you have kids and place to work on the car? If so, get them to part out the car...you might get more from the parts than from the deduction...then sell the whatever ss left over for scrap. ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. We donate ours to a reputable veterans group. Sorry, don't recall which one atm. With rare exceptions our cars almost always end-up donated, as we run 'em nearly into the ground. That was me. I'm in Portland, OR and the boat was in Fresno, CA. It was my dad's old boat and he died a while back. It was a 23' cabin cruiser. I just asked my sister if she got rid of it and she did but she never told me. I threw out all the suggestions you guys gave me (including the hole-saw and gasoline/match solutions) and she opted to have a junk company get rid of it. Apparently it cost $600 and they hauled it away and cut it up into pieces. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com

We donated an old Grand Cherokee (not running) to the Lung Association some years back, and it wasn't the first time we had trouble. Some weeks after it was towed, we got a letter from the Chicago Police that the car was abandoned on the West Side, and that we would be charged towing fees. When my Girlfriend called and explained what happened, they were good with it, saying it apparently happens frequently, that a donated car will be stripped for parts and abandoned on the street. I'd still encourage you to donate the car, despite our (minor) issue. Just be prepared for some hiccups in the process. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I've donated them to the local St. Vincent DePaul Society. Great charity. I also traded my old minivan for a partial credit on my new roof. Made one of the roofers very happy. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I live in the DFW area and about 6 yrs ago my neighbor needed to get rid of a car that the front end was totaled. Cannot remember which organization it was but they came out with flatbed and picked up vehicle and gave him the tax write off slip. I think he got the lead from the local radio station.

See if your local fire/rescue department will take it. A local towing company donates retrieving them. They take ones from around here to use for auto extrication training. I taught extrication at annual fire training school. You could get a donation write off and they dispose of it. PC
