Wow, the idiots. Oh how I loathe tourists. Even when I take PTO and go on vacation I’m trying to avoid any and all tourists. They are just mindless idiots. The amount of trash I pick up from tourists while on vacation is staggering. I have to lecture them that the island isn’t their own little personal trash dump.

And the same thing happens with Marine life. An Optometrist from CA arrived in Kaanapali not long after I left in 2019. He thought it was a good idea to swim off shore a bit. News claimed 60 yards but my people that live in Maui say 100 yards and maybe over. The water between Maui and Molokai is world renown for Humpback whales that migrate to have sex and birth. 10,000 of the fucking things. They travel from Alaska to the islands every year making the 3000 mile journey in 4-6 weeks. Well with all those whales, and calves, it brings sharks because they like the channel for the same exact reasons, to birth. A lot of Tiger sharks. So Mr. Optometrist got eaten by one. Tigers like to hunt in the morning or at dusk. You could say accident but not a chance in hell I’d be that far off shore nor at that time of day unless I was on/in watercraft.

Fuck I hate tourists. Idiots.

We get some of the same up here in Alaska. Driving home last night decided to take a quick drive up to the Nature Center to relax a little before going home. On the way in there was a sow brown bear with a yearling munching on dandelions about 25 yards off the the opposite side of the road.

Myself, one other pickup and another car pulled off and watched. We all killed lights, motors and sat there silently watching. Really a cool experience to be that close and watch, could literally hear them ripping up the dandelions.

On the way back the bears were still there. This time several cars had stopped with people hanging out windows, making noises trying to get their attention and baiting them by throwing snacks out the window to try and get that, "Special" picture.

I didn't stop on the way back.

"Special Picture"
Is that the picture from inside the bear's mouth?

When I was D.R. up at Blackrock on the Bridger-Teton I had numerous encounters with tourists and grizzly bears. Some were very rewarding. I recall a sow with two cubs off the highway on Togwotee Pass. The bears were well off the highway, and while tourists were out of their cars, all stayed up on the side of he road and didn’t attempt to get closer. I approached a woman standing next to a car with Ohio plates, along with her two kids. “Is that a grizzly bear?” She asked me.
“Yes, it is,” I replied.
She smiled. “Kids, that’s a grizzly bear!” she repeated to the kids, beaming.
I thought it was wonderful.

I also experienced the inconceivably stupid and selfish. We received a call at the ranger station of a group of people baiting bears as 2000-Z71 described. Drawing bears to the edge of a highway is a great way to bring about the death of both bears and people. By the time I got there with the large predator conflict specialist from WGFD, they were gone. I’ve posted this in the past, but there was a network of photographers that seemed to think they had a different set of rules, relative to the amount of money invested in photography equipment. I really disliked a number of those people, and if baiting would get them the kind of shot they desired, they would do it in a NY minute.

Just saw this on my feed.
I think it’s pretty much our inner monologue regarding this subject.

Well, outside of the last minute that’s an earbud advertisement.

Enjoy Wink

Apparently the guy that videoed these two tried to stop them from getting off the boardwalk, but got a “Whatever, man” in reply. So he decided to record the incident. I guess it’s “Really hot!”

Yesterday, tourist here swerved to avoid... A turkey. His towed camper disconnected from his vehicle and then destroyed itself, closing US 41 n both directions for several hours. The camper wreckage was cleaned up with an excavator and a dump truck. Yay, tourism!

Many people are just plain stupid.

I have been to Yellowstone once and it was the perfect experience. It was in the middle of January in I believe 1999. There was absolutely no one around. Back then you could rent a snowmobile and go off by yourself. I explored the entire park via snowmobile stopping at spots without a single person around. I think there were 5 people when I saw Old Faithful.

I still came across two morons who thought it would be fun to take their snowmobile off the road and it completely sunk in the snow.

Well, people aren’t much different here in Costa Rica.
Took the CPD Family on a little vacation.
Hung out in the jungle.
Central American Jungles = a lot of stuff that can kill you! Not as bad as Australia, where everything WANTS to kill you, but I digress.

I had to have a conversation yesterday with a Gringo.
“Hey, Genius, that’s an eyelash viper! It will fuck your life up! Like in the permanent sense. I’d leave it alone!”

He wanted to pick the foot long danger noodle with a short stick that he found in the bushes.

Damn, Charlie Darwin was right!

He muttered something along the lines of “the yellow ones are more dangerous”.
No, fucktard they are ALL dangerous, they can kill you, and it’s going to hurt the whole time…

Unfortunately, we don't have anything really dangerous here that will poison, gore, or boil tourists alive.

Our "tourists" are lakers. They come from Chicago and Indianapolis for a couple of weeks out of the year to stay in their million dollar lake house that sits empty for the other 50 weeks. Their nemesis is the boat ramp...most can't back a trailer to save their life, and don't have a clue how to load or unload their boat. Somehow most of these idiots can afford a boat that cost more than my house, but aren't competent enough to get it in the water.

Unfortunately most of them eventually get it launched, and then they tool around the lake intentionally creating massive wake, swamping smaller boats, and blaring obnoxious hip-hop music that can be heard for miles. It's really too bad we don't have more shallow sunken logs around...

Occasionally, though, like yesterday, the lake wins. One of those nimrods sank his whole rig above the roof at the boat ramp. I didn't get to see it because I was working and it happened at a lake on the other side of the county, but I heard the call go out. There's a sweet sense of justice when stuff like that happens, just knowing that the laws of physics still apply and stupid still hurts. But it's also kind of annoying when you're waiting in line to use the ramp and just want to go fish, and now you have to wait in the dive team and a wrecker to come drag the FISHTAB out of the lake.

Yeah, we get a crop of idiots every year in my area that want to go catch a rattlesnake. They have the attitude that you won't die from the bite. You might not but the bite area will never be the same and your wallet will be wrecked with ~ $80K in damages. I never suggest they rethink what they're doing. I'm more along the line of "give it a shot". You really can't go against Charlie, it's a law of nature.

I figured this important question out!

It happened shortly after we had to put warning labels on everything and had to sign waivers (not the Sig Forum waiver Wink) to do anything!

They were mandated to put a warning label on a gun. Well no screaming eagle shit! Guns are DANGEROUS!

Why are they on a gun? That’s right- some dumbass…
The bad thing is, it somewhat keeps the next dumbass around to procreate more dumbasses.
