Ironically, my favorite was a coffee that you used to be able to buy at Starbucks, Arabian Mocha Sanani. The beans came primarily from Yemen, and Middle Eastern conflict and politics ensured that that line of coffee would be gone, and likely forever. Otherwise, we live outside of town, and don’t go to coffee shops of any brand.

There have been several threads on coffee and coffee makers. We spent the money on a Technivorm Mochamaster, the high end Dutch machine, as a result of threads here in the Forum. I’ve concluded that the coffee itself is much more important to satisfaction than the machine. For at least a couple years, we’ve been primarily buying “Costa Rica” whole bean coffee through Costco. It hasn’t been sold in the store for quite a long time, but is available from the website.

We try other coffees just to stay honest, most recently a couple different offerings from Community Coffee out of Baton Rouge. They are a major PRCA Rodeo sponsor, and brought a commercial drip machine to our Media Center at Cheyenne Frontier Days, that made great coffee. We couldn’t seem to duplicate the taste at home.

Hope you find what your looking for, but I’ll warn you, you’ll find it in your coffee cup, not in the Forum.

What's your favorite?

Well I enjoy Starbucks and Peet's whole bean and buy whichever is on sale. I mix the beans half and half dark and medium roast, dark is just a bit too burnt (and doesn't have as much caffein) while medium is not quite roasted enough. Barb always preferred dark roast but now likes the 50/50 blend a little more.

Jamaican blue mnt is roasted locally and it’s 60.00/pound.

Same roaster does a Mexican oaxaca blanca bean that is slightly better tasting and runs 18.00/pound.
It has notes of dark chocolate, marzipan, and toasted marshmallows. It’s outstanding and just as smooth as JBM.

My daily bean is sold at Aldi and is organic Honduran in whole bean. 12 oz for less than 7.00

I use a stainless French press and a hand operated burr grinder. I also use an electric kettle to get the water to the proper temperature for a nice bloom and extraction.

Coworkers beg me to drag all that in on a weekly basis and I treat them to it. You really don’t know what you’re missing until you score a freshly roasted bean that’s properly ground and steeped.

I’ve converted a LOT of folks off drip makers and Kueregs over the years.

Interesting, I'd love to try it. I'm curious as to where it is grown because I have been to the DR which is on the same island and there's nothing spectacular about their coffee.


The shop I get my JBM from gets it direct from Jamaica and puts it through his custom made slow roaster. He sells it as whole bean only but will grind it for you on request.

I'm not a snob but I can recognize and appreciate good coffee.

I prefer my own French press made coffee.

I buy Choc full of Nuts from Sam's. Still comes in a 3lb metal can for about $10 delivered with Sam's plus.

Woodlands Church, if you want to look it up, but they don't really have much on their coffee on their site.

I forget the full story, but they had a mission trip down there after one of the big earthquakes & made a wrong turn, and ended up in a village. Decided to do what they could there & helped them cultivate the ground & improve their crop. I think the first few batches weren't great, but got progressively better.
The church buys 100% or their coffee crop, to the extent they've [the village] declined to sell to some of the bigger coffee conglomerates.

It's been a couple years since we've been regulars there, so I'm not sure their offerings these days.

I used to buy Black Rifle but we all know what a farce they are.
Switched to Blackout Coffee and haven't looked back.
A great patriotic 2A supporter and the coffee is spectacular.

We stock up on this when it's on sale at Costco.

Rodak's Coffee in Fort Worth. He imports single origin coffee from all over the world and roasts it once it's ordered.

For years my favorite was Costa Rican Tarrazu but sadly in recent years the quality and taste has diminished no matter who I source the beans from.

Yes, this is my favorite too. I drink it every evening. In the morning/afternoon I try different brands. Lately I have tried the German roasted coffee(medium) from Aldi and it's pretty good.

My dad used to make it by putting water in a pan, letting it go to a boil, turn it off and put coffee in the pan. It would make a big brown bubble over the pan. After it sat for a little bit he would pour the contents of the pan into his cup and let the grounds settle.

Beans - I have gravitated to Sumatra from a few sources:
- BJ's Wellsley label is surprisingly good
- Peets - Major D's and all their Sumatra varieties
- Cycle town coffee - wait until they do their BOGO sales and get 2x5# of Sumatra.
Grindd it in a Virtuoso and brew in a MochaMaster.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
