SBrooks2009 Tacoma plastic center caps on wheels
Just got my tires rotated for first time (new to me used truck) and the guy couldn't make those caps stay on the wheels tight. Just put them in my floor board after showing me...
Any tips on keeping those attached securely ?

MattWIf they’re like any others that I’ve seen on a Toyota truck/SUV they just snap on. Always a chance they were broken before you took ownership possibly.

Or they were broken when being removed.

Thought crossed my mind. Then I thought, surely he didn't break all 4 if he's been working for longer than a week this isn't the first Toyota truck/SUV the guy has seen. Then again...

arfmelWere they on the truck when you took it in? If so, he no doubt broke them.

WheelsSome of the caps are actually easier to put back on the wheel before the wheel goes on the truck. They have little metal tabs that have to line up with small cutouts in the center of the wheel. The tabs also break fairly easily. Most people don't do this because it makes it harder to use an impact gun. Other style caps should just pop on.

^^^ I don't know if your Tacoma is the same, but I had a Mitsubishi 3000GT that used something similar to a metal snap ring to hold the center caps in place. Typically there were no issues, but after removing them for balancing a few times coupled with the corrosion they would tend to break and most tire stores didn't have them in stock. They were pretty inexpensive, so I ordered an extra set and kept them in the glove box...

BigJoeYes, in the center there is a wire ring, and attached to the wire ring and the cap are several clips. My bet is one or more of those clips are broke.
