I have an old Sony BRAVIA TV that’s got nothing loaded on it (YouTube, Netflix, etc…). Beside internet surfing, we watch nothing except YT videos and movies on our iPhones. I want to utilize the BRAVIA’s big screen for this purpose by connecting it to the phone using a USB-C to HDMI cable. Want at least a 20-foot cable. Please recommend a quality cable. Thanks.

A 20 foot cable is going to be fairly pricey.

In addition, simply mirroring your phone display onto a larger screen won't result in the correct resolution or aspect ratio for a TV display.


Instead, I'd look at something like a ~$40 Roku or Firestick. This will plug into your HDMI port and allow you to have Youtube, Netflix, and other "smart TV" apps on your "dumb" Sony TV. Plus it won't rely on your phone's battery power, and you can continue to use your phone for other things while watching apps on the TV.

Or, if you specifically need to display and control these apps from your phone, something like a $40 Chromecast dongle would be a better and more cost-effective way to do that than running a long expensive cable and dealing with a subpar image.

I'd agree on a casting device [Roku, Chromecast, etc], unless you have a specific use case to need to connect your phone/pc to the TV.

Right, attach a device as mentioned above like Chromecast and just cast to it or use the apps.

Roku, for no subscription, offers YouTube; also various movie streaming services; has a very good remote control that is voice-controlled; and is very cheap, something like $50. We got one to use our TV when we cut the cable this month, and don’t miss Spectrum. I subscribe to Sling to watch and DVR everything on Fox News Channel I want to watch.

Roku is my favorite.

I almost ordered the cable, but being tech half-illiterate, I decided to ask SIGforum’s collective brain first, and I’m glad I did. Thanks for steering me in the right direction. Just a FYI, I actually did have Chromecast for years watching YT. Then one day recently, it just stopped working. It kept saying no wifi. And I understand that Google no longer produces this device. So, I’ll probably will get the Fire TV Stick.

Currently, I have the home computer hooked up to the BRAVIA, so basically, I’m doing everything on this huge “computer screen”. The only drawback is, since it’s Windows 7, I cannot watch many of the movies on YT, because it requires at least Windows 10. With the Fire Stick coming soon, this will no longer be an issue.

It looks like you have things under control. But if you end up needing to go from USB-C to HDMI in the future, I'll recommend the Anker 310 adapter.

An issue with using an Lightning/USB3 to HDMI adapter is the actual HDMI cable will be really stiff and put extra strain on the adapter and the phone’s jack. We used the adapter up north when we didn’t have internet but did have good cell service. The Apple brand adapters would last about three months.

Now that we have fiber, we’re using a firestick.
