Had a cousin that was the weapons officer on the 58. They flew their bird to Arizona when they took them out of service. They loved that plane.

There is just something pure, beautiful, and graceful about the F-86 Sabre.

Does that include the F4F Wildcat?
I once watched a guy turn on final in one of those, still frantically cranking his landing gear down. I think he made it.
The Wildcat is actually a good looking aircraft too, although I think the Hellcat is prettier. Of course, neither one can match the pure sex appeal of the Corsair.

Well, her nickname BUFF kind of contradicts "prettiest", but I like her a lot. My favorite, though is the F-15.

Somewhere in my archives is a picture of me in the cockpit of one of the Black Sheep Squadron Corsairs when it was being serviced at Chino back in the late 1970s. I'll have to try and find my archives this evening, and if I can, I'll post it.

Another from the GA world, the Piper Comanche 260, produced in the 1960's. I've always admired the sleek, proportional lines of this plane, especially with wingtip tanks (not shown here, unfortunately).
This picture is actually a reproduction of a shot from Flying Magazine, and one I had taped to my wall in college. Too bad I never could afford one:

Boy do I love threads like this.
Great call on the Comanche newtoSig765, it's one of the best looking GA aircraft IMO.
I'll add a few to the mix...
The first plane I ever flew in, and I still think they look great. The Mad Dog...
The gorgeous Spartan executive...
A different Messerschmitt, the 108 Taifun...
My favorite Allied WWII bird, the Razorback model P-47...
My favorite aircraft of all time, the Focke Wulf Fw190 A3...

Were you ever close enough to cut your finger on the leading edge of a 104's wing? There's a good reason they cover it when it's on the ground!
Maybe not quite that sharp, but damned near.
LOL! Yep! Creative uses for pool noodles! Never saw it happen, but heard many a story from my Uncle about how well the leading edge would open up a forehead on a ground crewman who wasn't paying enough attention.

Ha! Good point. But, around here, it's always been and always will be Beech no matter what the sign out front said at the time! ;-)

The Pima Air and Space Museum (Tucson, Az; largest privately-owned aircraft museum in the world) has one on display. It is a stunning aircraft.
Beech didn't smash 'em - there are at least 3 still flying in the US by private owners who told Beech to fuck off. One is based in CO, but regularly flies in to SoCal go visit its "friends" at SCALED Composites. This message has been edited. Last edited by: aileron,

Surprised no one has put one of these up; my neighbor just finished a 9 year restoration on one and is taunting me by parking it in my hangar :-(

This certainly has to be one of the top pretty airplanes. I, too, had dreams of some day owning one.
One year at the Miramar Air Show, I was cruising the static displays and encountered one in the blue camo of the Nevada ANG, with the pilot nsme stenciled below the canopy, "BGEN JIM ALLEN." I had a photo taken while I could still stand! It was posted here some months ago.

I think you missed the point. The aircraft weren't all destroyed. Several are still flying, and a number of them are sitting in Arizona.

The 195 and 170 are the best looking GA airplanes to me. I have a 170 and love it. Something about a rounded tail and a tailwheel.
