"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

How do you prove to police that a trailer is your trailer? Do they have a S/N number on them somewhere? Or maybe he has video of this guy stealing it from his yard, but I didn't hear any mention of it.

Nah, if you had planned to nail him just like that, why not just be calm and cool? Let the crook let his guard down completely and the cops take care of business. Fucker really thought he was going to haul some cash home. Instead, he hot a Nelson. Ha! Ha!

Not sure how it works in other states, but the tow vehicle used in this theft can be confiscated:
Wisconsin statute 973.075 - Forfeiture of property derived from crime and certain vehicles. (1) Subject to subs. (1g) and (1m), the following are subject to seizure and forfeiture under ss. 973.075 to 973.077: (a) All property, real or personal, including money, used in the course of, intended for use in the course of, or directly or indirectly derived from or realized through the commission of any crime...

Probably had plenty of practice!
My experience with the few habitual thieves I've known is that they are very glib, and convincing in their speech, almost as if they believe their own BS.
Another lesson to be learned, if you have something stolen from you, immediately get on Craigslist and E-bay.

It doesn't help find a stolen trailer, but a fun way of identifying it when you and the cops catch up to the thief: spray paint your name in orange on the underside of the deck when you buy it.

Kudos to the cops who fully supported the citizen. That's the way it should be.
Cops out here would be bitching to the citizen - "Why do you have hassle this guy? It's just a trailer. No harm done. You can just go buy a new one." Oh wait, the perp was caucasian. They only bitch if the perp is dark and/or illegal.
It's a sign of how sad things are out here when I'm actually surprised by outcomes like this.
