Oh well go in harms way, what do you need money for? Looks like Joe learned from the Afghan military how to treat your personnel, pay wise anyway.

Every yeoman I ever met was taught to tell the particular sailor in front of them, “it’s the member’s responsibility…”

"Some sailors"???

Every fucking sailor has had their pay messed up at some point.

I had a girl call me cause she was skipping meals cause she had not received BAH for 8 months and was paying rent with base pay. She was allowed a discharge based off the hard ships.

It's a fucking shit show. Best part, we're not allowed to directly contact the pay and personnel departments. The YN has to. Two things you don't fuck with, a grown man's time and money, fuck my shit up twice I'll go tk captains mast. Some things are about principle.

ETA: Ain't got a God damn thing to do with Joe Biden get off that fucking soap box. It's been happening since forever.

Screwing up Sailors pay is a naval tradition.

Back before direct deposit they lost my pay record and I didn't get paid for 2 months. Then it took a few months to get the back pay because "No one goes 2 months without getting paid"

Got a call from the very upset wife one day asking why we only got paid $0.37. That also took months to get straighten out.

Every deployment I ever did my pay was screwed up somehow.

Yeah, screwing up pay is nothing new, and is NOT limited to the Navy.

In the USAF, there are countless memes and folk stories about finance. One goes: "USAF Finance: Screwing up your pay since 1947."

I would bet every military member who served at least 4 years has at least 1 personal anecdote about their pay being messed with, and dozens of second- and third-hand stories.

VERY early on in my 23-year career, I developed a list of people who I would go out of my way to not antagonize, no matter who was at fault. Reason being, any one of them could wreck my world very quickly with VERY little effort:

ANY security forces/military police
ANY finance troop
ANY First Sergeant
ANY commander
ANY Chief Master Sergeant

Any of these, by action or inaction, could impose significant hardships upon me, often without any direct attribution. Finance people could simply 'lose' my file, or 'forget' to process a voucher. Even the lowliest airman in finance had great power.

My ex-BIL was in the Navy. When his ship sailed to the Philippines, then stood off North Vietnam for two months his pay got screwed up.

Try fixing that while at sea, on a ship home ported in San Diego, with you and your dependents still resident and living in the DC area because his PCS was screwed up by my sister giving birth to my nephew 8 weeks early.

My parents were largely done with him and my sister, but I recall them cutting my sister a check for $1000 (in 1970s dollars) because it wasn’t their fault.

This could have happened under Trump and I won't take the President take the blame for this. Biden has fucked up a lot more things deliberately than this oversight.

On the other hand, I suspect this would have gotten Trump's attention though and he would have been up someone's ass to get it fixed.

1985 - I was stationed in Italy and being paid via hardcopy paycheck in the old mail box, 15th & 30th of the month.

Congress decided to 'save' the country millions in budget one year, changed pay schedules to 1st and 15th - which coincidentally moved the VERY NEXT payroll date into the new fiscal year. Yeah, saved us millions, damn.

As a single Airman, I was able to stand in line at the base theater for hours and get paid in cash. Married folks with Sure Pay (direct deposit) - no guarantee they were getting paid anytime soon. Roll Eyes

I learned the same thing, from a different source....my girlfriend at the time & I were scheduled to go on leave together stateside from Italy. My shop chief approved my leave, his superior (our superintendent) was threatening to cancel due to it being summer time & our shop (refrigeration / hvac) was in busy period.

The superintendent though was just about to rotate out permanent change of station back stateside. Told girlfriend he was going to cancel my leave, she worked in Physical Exams at the Hospital. She told me when his medical records got back to her she was going to put them on a desk in her office and lose them for a few months. Which meant that super would not only not PCS, but may even end up with a different assignment once his medical records were re-constituted. He def wouldn't be leaving without them.

Trump did something about the VA. You don't think he would have been up someone's ass to get this fixed too especially with the media who would have grasped at anything to paint how incompetent he is?
