Are there even people switching to democrat though? They seem to have all started at a young age.

There have been people leaving the republican party for the dem party, but mostly what they do is align with the dems and disown the republicans. I think this is because the dems have hurt their brand so much.

Grandfather used to say, "everyone is a democrat - until they start paying taxes."

While maybe not 100% accurate, it does have some truth to it.

Some single issue voters (e.g. unhappy Conservative SCOTUS left abortion to be state issue instead of Roe v Wade federal issue) have left Republican party.

There's a difference between voters/citizens and people that are professional politicians.
As a voter, I see myself as being better off in neither party.
In my state I can choose to vote in either primary at the polling location and after that it doesn't really matter.
Although I normally vote much more for Republicans, they party itself and some of it's elected officials are often at odds with my positions.
I also don't want to encourage the frequent spamming that being for a registered brings.

I've left both parties. Registered Democrat when I was 18. That's what my parents were. Started to become politically aware in 1990. In 1994 figured these guys don't represent how I feel, so registered Republican. In 2008 was the first time I considered sitting on my hands and not vote. I've heard the Republican party drone on and on about the same old shit that never gets done. Registered unaffiliated.

My voter registration card says libertarian. As a conservative I align with republican ideals but I can no longer be a “party member” that not only incorporates rino trash, but allows them to fester and remain. My hope is that conservatism overwrites republicanism at the core and drives swamp creatures from the party.
