Looking for backup when my pc has its occasional fits. My wife's ipad is hit or miss for me, I can't even log on to the Sig Forum for some reason, among other such problems. Thinking about a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0". For under $300 it seems to have a lot going for it, battery life average or worse being the main disadvantage. Good idea or better way to go? I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A last summer for less than $150. I tend not to use a tablet much, but I have been happy with it. Battery life is great, and all the apps are available. Normally, I use my iPhone, but I wanted to try Android, as I may dump Apple on my next phone upgrade, and this was a convenient way to try it out. This space intentionally left blank.

I read, and post to, Sigforum all the time on the 2017 9.7" iPad I bought at Costco a couple months ago. I also read SF on my iPhone. As for Samsung: I wouldn't have a "smart" thing with Samsung software in it to save my soul. They have repeately been shown to have a fine disregard for software quality and security, and customer privacy. (Looks like they might still have the iPad I bought. It was around $300, IIRC.) I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (7" screen) to replace my old Asus Nexus. So far it's been great. Takes an SD card as well so no worries about storage for me. I love the size of the 7 inch screen. It's a perfect size for me. I don't like large tablets. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

I am spoiled by the ipad's display, the S2 is supposed to be excellent as well. The SD card is a huge plus. The 8" size seems just right. I could spend a lot less but quality starts to fall off pretty quick. The aspect ratio appeals to me most of those offered. Browsing and file saving, no personal info I can think of, if Samsung likes my surfing habits, knock yourself out. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Nice thing about the Samsung tablets is the ability to add a micro-SD card. My tablet came with 8GB, but I added a 128GB SD card, for a lot less than getting 128GB in an iPad. I don't hate the iPad, my son has 2 of them, and I have been using an iPhone for 8 years, or so. For me, I use the tablet as a portable substitute for a laptop, and the Android works better. The file manager app I used on iPhone is no longer supported, a number of other work arounds I used to store, manage and treat files like a computer have become a pain on my iPhone. On the Android, file management for a user is built in, ready to go. Is it as convenient as a computer? No, but I have Microsoft Office and Google apps to handle most anything. I have had trouble transferring large amounts of data to the iPhone (128GB), via Bluetooth, or other methods. The Android has been a piece of cake. If all you want is an iPhone with a larger screen, by all means, get the iPad. As a replacement for a laptop, I have found the Galaxy Tab A to be better, though I wouldn't want to be stuck with it as my only computer, that is for sure. This space intentionally left blank.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and my wife has a Tab E 8.0, which is 4gLTE and wifi. Both have been excellent. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. I use a Tab S 10.5 inch and I like it. Great screen, and enough computing power for my uses. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I've got both the Tab A 8" and the S2 8". The S2 is far and away the better of the two. Much faster with twice the memory and storage space of the Tab A. Octa-core processor versus the quad-core in the Tab A. Both can accept a micro-SD. Both drain battery at about same rate. The display on the S2 is much clearer than my Tab A with it's super AMOLED display. I paid more than $300 for mine and would do it again without hesitation “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”

I should add that I bought the Bluetooth keyboards too. The BT keyboard makes it more convenient for typing longer documents/emails. When my desktop is unavailable, I use my S2. It is the next best thing. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

I have an older Samsung 5 tablet that works okay still. Recently, I bought 3 Amazon Fire HD 8" that work great. I bought another 32gb memory. The price on Amazon Prime Day was just too good to pass up. Internet works fine and I watch Netflix on it with no problems. It is only Wi-Fi capable but with all the other electronics I have it is not an issue. Living the Dream

I have an 8gb 7" that is 2 years old, and a 16gb 8 inch that is 1 year old. They work great but you CANNOT run things from the SD card. If I were getting one now, a 16gb would be the absolute min. I wish they made a medium level 32gb device... but most of them are high end. Don't get me wrong, I love my Galaxy Tab 10.1, but if you want a backup for your PC, consider a Microsoft Surface tablet. My boss has one and they are the bomb. Phone's ringing, Dude.

My wife got me a Samsung tablet some time back. I think it's a 2.0. Great battery life. Great display. I frequently watch movies on it. Internet works great on it as well. I also use it for a variety of other functions. Ignem Feram

I don't have the Samsung 8" that your asking about. But I have an IPAD mini, and it's about the same size. I've found that I use the heck out of it as it's a very handy size, easy to hold with one hand, and not heavy like larger tablets (I also have a 12.9" ipad pro, but only use it for watching movies and tv travelling because it's so bulky).
