About 3 years ago I lost both my dogs in 3 months. My WGSD succumbed to cancer and my GSD mix was suffering from spinal degenerative myopathy, it was really hard. A year down the road from that the wife decided she wanted a therapy dog for her practice. She is a mental health the specializes in trauma/PTSD and sees a lot of first responders so it needed to be something that they were familiar with, a 10year SWAT officer is t going to work with a Gorky. A breeder I had talked to gave me a call out of the blue and said that she had a GSD that had been a service dog, his handler was permanently hospitalized and he was then bounced around for 3 months before ending up back at the breeder. She asked if we wanted to come see him and of course I couldn’t say no and we ended up with Henry, who is now a certified therapy dog and does a lot of work with my wife’s trauma patients.

After a year the wife felt that we needed a 2nd dog that we could train and certify as a therapy dog so Henry could have a break. That brought us Brynn in May. Brynn came with heart worms and that has been a long healing process. After a couple months the wife felt that Brynn needed someone to keep her company on the days she was home. That brings us to Kiki in September. While it has wildly complicated my life they were all rescues and I am enjoying them.

That seems to be how it goes!

I lost both of mine early last year. Had them both well over a decade.

This is my future.

Great story and great looking dogs.

Our oldest GSD is now 12 and started having health problems just after his birthday. We almost lost him but the vet put him on some meds and now every day he’s still around is a blessing.

It's been said that "All dogs are therapy dogs". Your's however, are particularly good looking pups. I suspect, and hope, that they will live long, productive and amazing lives.

Congrats!

For a year, we had 1 dog. Then we got another and had 2 dogs for three years. Then we got a 3rd dog. We had 3 dogs for 3 years until the youngest died of cancer. A few months after that, our oldest also died of cancer. 2022 was rough losing 2 dogs. I ended up rehoming our remaining dog to a wonderful family earlier this year.

As much as we love them, I don't see us getting another dog for many years. My favorite was the pit bull, she was my shadow.

Rescues are the absolute best. They KNOW you gave them another chance at life and they appreciate it. I have never bought a dog from a breeder and never will.

She’s mostly med high drive but she can turn it up to Saturn V levels when the mood hits! They keep me busy! Everyone is Leary if the GSD because he is so big I always warn it’s the little ones that you have to watch!
