Today it's streets, maybe some day it'll be cars to appeal to a segment of the "community"? I wonder what the Chrysler 300 would be named? Notorious 300? Or Volvo Antifa? _______________________________________ NRA Life Member Member Isaac Walton League I wouldn't let anyone do to me what I've done to myself

It has been a while (1970, to be exact), but my first job out of college was working on Nichols Ave in SE Washington DC. Shortly thereafter, it was renamed MLK Ave. It started down by a sewer treatment plant, and wended its way through Anacostia and Congress Heights, some of the absolute worst areas of DC at that time, crime-wise and slum-wise.

A local attorney was pretty upset when the City Council proposed renaming the street in front of his office MLK blvd. He was white and claimed that for historical reasons the name should not be changed. Everyone knew the issue was that he was fearful of losing business. He was skilled verbally, but it was hilarious watching him dance around the issue and give all kinds of bullshit reasons not to change the name.

Still very accurate. They have revitalized some of the areas near Nats Park, other than that, DC's is pretty damn crappy. Anacostia hasn't changed one bit. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Yeah, the times I have driven on an MLK Blvd, Drive, Ave, etc., I have always had this creeping feeling that Reginald Denny had right before he was pulled out of his truck. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

I really like seeing the street name of MLK when traveling - especially via interstate. I tells me, in no uncertain terms, that I do not want to pull off here for gas, food, etc. I appreciate the warning. It is just another way of posting a sign saying "Don't bring your honky ass here." The ethnic version of "Danger - Mine Field" or "Danger - Quick Sand." . “Leave the Artillerymen alone, they are an obstinate lot. . .” – Napoleon Bonaparte http://poundsstudio.com/

there's a MLK high school near me... it's got bars on the windows (i assume to keep people in rather than out), metal detectors, and security ------------------------------------ 135 ├┼┼╕ 246R
