Need referral for SSI attorney around Amarillo Tx
A friend’s son needs a good SSI attorney preferably in the Texas Panhandle area.

It’s a legitimate claim, not a “get out of work” scheme.

Thanks in advance.

Be advised, even on a legit claim unless it is extremely obvious (such as amputation, halo neck-brace, etc) it will probably still be denied initially.

Seems that is their first-line “go to” for filtering claims. They figure if you aren’t willing to fight and appeal than you don’t need it.

Also unless it’s changed, you can only use an attorney that has been approved by SSA. They all are fee limited to the same cost, work on contingency.

If one agrees to take the case, should be a pretty strong 90%+ chance of it being approved eventually. Thankfully, if approved it is backdated to initial application date.

This is all based on personal experience with my wife when we went through this 12 years ago or so. They refuted her Doctor’s report, had her evaluated by “their” Doctor. Their doc concurred with her doc and she was still initially denied. Just a mere 10 months later Roll Eyes , her attorney won the appeal.

Not knowing any details this may not be relevant.

Having just filed for SS disability, I was surprised to learn that the SSA doesn’t make any decisions about the medical claim's approval. The medical approval/disapproval is made by the claimant"s state agency.

In my case, when the SSA sent my claim to FL for the medical review, I spoke with the case manager in Tallahassee and went over the claim before she submitted it for review. She made some recommendations for additional documentation and we even discussed some specific verbiage. She was very helpful,

If the issue is the medical approval, and they haven’t already done so, discussing the rejection with the state's case manager and refiling/appealing might be worth the effort before paying for a lawyer.

Google says, Morgan & Morgan: Offers national representation with a Houston office; handles both SSDI and SSI appeals and initial applications. This is a national firm that handles all kinds of litigation.

Texas has specialized local firms like Morgan Weisbrod, which focuses exclusively on Social Security and Veterans disability law and is board-certified in the field. If you are located in Morgan, TX, you would likely need to contact the Houston office of Morgan & Morgan or a local Dallas-based firm for representation, as they serve clients throughout the state.

Morgan Weisbrod: A Texas-based firm specializing exclusively in SSDI, SSI, and VA disability claims with offices in Dallas and Houston.
Fee Structure: Both firms typically work on contingency, where payment is deducted from awarded backpay, subject to the federal cap.

A friend of mine lost his leg in a accident involving a bus and his disability claim has already been denied twice. He had to secure an attorney to handle his current appeal and hopefully it will be approved. He wants to work but currently has no income so he's stuck in the long term rehab facility. If his claim is approved he'll have money to get his own place and find a job. The downside to getting an attorney is they get a slice of your disability payment for as long as you receive the payment.

In my experience. The attorney gets 25% of the back award and doesn’t get anything from future payments

I don't remember the percentage of my back award that my attorney got, but I do believe that he slow rolled the process so he could get a larger sum.

...and he gets nothing past the point of judgement

The attorney can charge up to 25% of the award, but it is capped at $9200 for 2025. They do not receive any payments after the award is issued.
If you’re under 50 years old, it will very likely be denied. I was 50 and 6 months when I was injured. I guess that I was very lucky that I was approved the first time that I applied.
