TommydoggPickpocketed!!!
Friday night we were in the French quarter and my wallet disappeared out of my lower front pocket on my cargo shorts. Large crowds were on the streets between 6 and 7, we were headed back to the hotel.within an hour I had all my Credit and debit Cards cancelled. My ID and 40 bucks also. I got my LGS to email a copy of my license and concealed permit. With a TSA interview I should be able to fly back today.
My question is, how do I deal my credit or try to ensure my ID is not used for new accounts? It's been brought up a few times here but not in a while that I've read. Thanks!

Powers77You have to contact the three big credit agencies and set up the freeze. I think most states are making them do it for free now.
Good idea whether you have had a theft or not.

https://www.thebalance.com/how...credit-bureau-960796Freezing Your Credit Report at Each Credit Bureau
Visit each credit bureau’s site to get more information about placing a security freeze on your credit report.
Equifax: Freeze Your Equifax Credit Report, 1-800-685-1111 (NY residents 1-800-349-9960)
Experian: Freeze Your Experian Credit Report, 1-888-397-3742
TransUnion: Freeze Your TransUnion Credit Report, 1-888-909-8872
Note that credit bureaus may experience high call volumes and web traffic after major data breaches and other widespread identity attacks. You may experience long phone wait times and even have difficulty accessing the credit bureau online security freeze forms during these times.
You can also place a security freeze by mail (use certified mail). Make sure you send the following information in your request:
Your full name, including your middle initial any generational suffix (e.g. Jr., II, etc.)
Complete current address, and previous addresses for the past two years
Date of birth, month, day, and year
Social security number
Proof of identification (e.g. a photocopy of your valid driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID, or birth certificate)
Address verification (e.g. utility bill, cell phone bill, pay stub. Do not send a credit cards statement, magazine subscription, voided check, or lease agreement)
Payment (check, money order, or major credit card)
Here are the credit bureau addresses you should use to mail your security freeze application and documentation.

WoodmanCredit freeze. It is impossible to open a line of credit with a frozen credit bureau account.
It will take you 30 minutes and a laptop. One agency may require additional information, so you'll have to write to them. TransUnion was the holdout for me.
My AMEX was just compromised. I'm fairly certain I could identify the vendor who I feel swiped my info, and the Fraud Department of AMEX was interested in the circumstances surrounding my suspicions. AMEX froze the transactions, new card immediately issues. They continue regular charges for life, like YMCA, without the new number being required (guess only the expiration date has to be updated).
It is amazing how their algorithms picked it all up. Test charge at a decal shop $1.56, sports tee shirt charge, $273, department store $785 ...
Other than that isolated incident last week, my credit has not been misused in (like) forever. The ex-wife has a few more frequent attacks on her established credit, but no new lines have been issued in her name either.

rpm2010OP do you remember any "bumps" into anyone? Front cargo shorts pockets are normally pretty deep.

Not particularly any single bumps as it was pretty crowded at that point in certain areas. Half of the road was secured for underground repairs on Bourbon street making it pretty narrow. At that point we were just trying to get away from the crowd. In the future, I may carry a lanyarded wallet or bike wallet in such situations if they occur. I've been carrying a military ID for almost 40 years. This will be the first one that I have ever had to replace other than expiration.

Otto PilotFor what it's worth, I have some of these shorts and a pair of the pants. It's not as fast if you need to get into your pockets, but not for other people either.

aileronSorry this happened to you. We're visiting NOLA ourselves, and was concerned about pick pockest on Saturday night on Chartes. We're back to MT tomorrow, but I'll be extra careful when we're in the French Quarter this evening.
