Why import reptiles with toxic venom dripping from their fangs when we have domestic reptiles with toxic venom dripping from their fangs?

Why in the Hell would someone want to keep something like this as a "Pet".......

Naja nigricincta is an oviparous venomous spitting cobra with dark brown to black body and zebra-like vertical whitish or light yellow stripes along the dorsal side. These stripes are generally evenly spaced and can be complete or fragmented. The ventral scales range from white to orange in color. In juvenile snakes the overall coloration is lighter than in the adults.

Like all other Naja species, this snake can flatten head and neck into a hood. The head and hood are uniformly dark brown or black.

The venom of Naja nigricincta can cause massive hemorrhaging, necrosis and paralysis in bite victims. These snakes can also spit their venom, hitting their enemies with great accuracy and causing temporary or permanent blindness.

My co-worker had a brother in AZ that kept exotic snakes as pets. He got bit years back by one of his darlings (I believe it was a Gaboon Viper) and lost a significant portion of his arm to necrosis and excision.

Puzzling why someone would want to take these types of risks just to have a cool pet(s).

The shading is beautiful....it would make a nice pair of boots to go with my rattlesnake boots! My brother lives in Chapel Hill so I might send him on a weekend hunt!

First time I saw the thread title, I thought they were talking about a Canada Goose. But, that is the "Cobra Chicken," not the "Zebra Cobra." . .

Sounds like mongooses are needed...lots of mongooses.

I'm glad this wasn't in Florida - that thing would have knocked up a few pythons by now and we'd have a real problem on our hands.

I’d much rather die by shotgun than stuck in glue until I suffocate or dehydrate.

Even if you live in Raleigh there is little chance you'll encounter the snake.

That will be cold comfort if you are the unlucky bastard who it bites, though.

Some years ago there was flooding in the Everglades. Deer were in a bad way getting stranded and starving, or drowned.
The state proposed sending hunters out to harvest the deer, ending their suffering and providing meat.
The tree huggers were up in arms demanding that they be allowed to rescue Bambi.
The state split the area, hunters got half, huggers the other. After several days the hunters had a good harvest, while the huggers got 3 deer but two died.
It’s much easier to point fingers then to do something.

That is very interesting. Too bad one of the tree huggers didn't run into a cranky giant python. Darwin is always looking for new members.
