Bookers Bourbon and a good cigar |
Facts about what I remember: 1. Book was read between 1985 and 2001. 2. Fiction 3. Terrorist cells operating in the USA. Things I don't remember: 1. Title 2. Author 3. Good Guy characters. (probably critical to finding the book!) Things about the book I remember: 1. Terrorist cell cuts main power line across the Potomac River to D.C., hide in the woods and then kill responding line repair crews. 2. Terrorists With explosives, drop a bridge across the D.C. beltway at rush hour. 3. Terrorists Detonate an explosives laden truck across the Golden Gate Bridge. 4. Terrorists Detonate a fuel tanker truck under a major overpass in downtown Chicago. 5. Terrorists Massacre black elementary school kids at recess at an inner-city school, while insuring local residents see the "KKK" symbols, in order to set off a race war. 6. Terrorists attempt to use shoulder launched antiaircraft missile to take down a passenger aircraft. During the period of 1985 to 2001, I was reading tons of books, sometimes 3 at a time. Almost all of the books were in Hard Cover from the like of Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Dale Brown, etc. Unfortunately, in 2001, my wife and I sold, gave away or threw out everything that was not "required" as we left on our 8 year trip in an RV.This message has been edited. Not the book you are thinking of, but if you'd like to read one with a very similar plot line, check out Forstchen's Day of Wrath. You'll be ordering more ammo and cleaning your rifle before you put it down. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." I remember the book. I thought it was "the enemy within" but I can't find it under that title. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

That's it! Thank you very much. I've already purchased it and added it to my KOBO library. A quick read of the prologue took me right to the fuel tanker on the Golden Gate bridge. I looked at that but I could not tell by the synopsis if it was the correct book. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

It is a book in which the terrorist plots are burned forever in my skull full of mush. I used these plots as a basis to develop additional more devastating scenarios for department training. I actually scared the hell out of my officers. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
