While they are adequate for my use, I found that they will come off your boot under certain circumstances. I would suggest something that you can strap on your boot and remain secure.

do these work when wearing New Balance sneakers?

STABILcers for me too. You have to pay attention to putting them on properly and some lighter types of shoes may be too soft to support them. If in really icy conditions, I wear NEOs overshoes with STABILcers heavy cleats built in to the sole. My go to vendor for cleats is The Warming Store.

I'll give a thumbs-up for the Yaktrax. My wife wears them if it even hints at being slippery; she has two aftermarket knees and cannot risk a fall. She'll wear through the wires on a pair of Yaktrax in under two winters.

I wear them if it looks bad out, and they work fine.

Five years ago I slipped on a icy patch, the leftover from freezing rain the night before. It changed to rain and the one low spot in our sidewalk at the corner got me.

Result, torn rotator cuff, surgery, P.T. I have good movement but on and off pain and as of two years and a few months ago a torn bicep tendon. Can't win.
