egregoreIn reading up on the uvula on Wikipedia, apparently there are people who have it
pierced.

In-fucking-sane.

mike28wI have no opinion about whether it will help you, but I had mine trimmed to help with snoring (which it did reduce my snoring).
I had it done in the office, under local. No big deal. There was a bunch of swelling for a couple of days that required me to sleep in a recliner for a couple of days. I remember taking some sort of liquid pain med for a while but don't recall severe pain at all. I do remember that I sounded a lot like Donald Duck for a few days afterward .... got some funny looks from that!
Best wishes! mike

Hamden106Not the same thing but I had a tonsilectomy in my late 20s. Swallowing was a problem for more than a week. But I did find one thing that slid down fairly well. Tunafish from a can, drained and greased up with mayo. Best Foods of course. That and water was all I had for more than a week.
Good luck.

If you still have your tonsils and the feeling is more to one side, it could be
Tonsil stones.
While using a light, if you press on the tonsil starting from the cheek you can often see if anything is in the duct. Small stones can be dislodged, but bigger ones may need to be broken up.
For the burning mouth, have they taken any cultures from your throat to rule out any infections? Do you have any white spots on the back of your throat or tonsils (assuming you have them)?

I would hope the ENT would have found tonsil stones. I’ve had at least four visits. I have had cultures done. This is been going on for over a year and a half.

ZSMICHAELWhy did this all start 1.5 years ago? Did your uvula suddenly have a growth spurt? I am not buying that the uvula is the sole cause.

bendableCarol's snoring only bothered other people, until she hit 59 years old.
Then it started bothering her in other ways, numerous health issues came about.
Two different doctors told her she had to have a CPAP machine and after 4 years and four cpaps later she found out none of them worked for her at all ,
the problems got worse health wise.
Then a doctor told her about something that had just been developed called inspire it sends , from what she tells me it sends an electronic signal that doesn't wake her up but teaches her muscles how to react to stop the snoring.
she is finding the Inspire to be the answer to all her prayers her health issues have stopped and she sleeps like a rock and her spouse can now sleep in the same room with her.
life is perfect for Carol something you might want to consider.

My issue isn't snoring or sleep apnea.

No idea. As I said, seen multiple doctors, tons of tests. The only thing that has been noticed over and over is my uvula is touching the back of my tongue. I had lost my 30 lbs around the time it started. I'm 54. Uvula can stretch with age. It is possible it was very close to being an issue for years and just finally hit. I have no idea.

ZSMICHAELWell you know surgeons see a surgical solution. Since you have time consider the stress angle. Relaxation techniques and stress managment may help.

I completely agree. I’ve not been a fan of doctors. They don’t listen and they just prescribe drugs. They are salesmen at best. But keep in mind I went and asked for this. He had mentioned it as a possibility back when my issue began. But he had me go through all the tests and specialists. I finally messaged him asking if we can cut my uvula because nothing else fit my symptoms.

MikeinNCGood luck.
I had my tonsils and adenoids out at age 34. It was brutal.
The liquid pain med didn’t do shit.
The Percocet didn’t do shit.
And you can’t up your dose because of the Tylenol.
Just know any surgery to the mouth, throat, soft palette will hurt. Every time you swallow for a solid two weeks.

bendableHarkening back to
The late nineteen hundreds.
I was 21 ,she was 22.
We met at college beer party.
She had a very non Midwestern accent.
I was two beers in and she had three already.
Out on the enclosed back porch Alice (from Dallas)
Taught me a thing or three about kissing.
My head was swimming ,just seven minutes in.
I checked a few times to see if she had gotten away with my uvula.
Thanks Alice
