So my wife just bought a Volvo XC90 yesterday after wanting one for a long time, and I would like to keep it nice for her, so what would you recommend to clean the leather on the interior? I see a lot of products on Amazon, but I’m not sure if one is better than another and if I need to be careful as the leather is very light cream colored, almost white.

Conditioning the leather is fine, but I’m mostly concerned with what is best for actual cleaning to get dirt spots and other potential grime and muck that might come in contact with the leather services over time.

Also, to note, there is some other upholstery that is not leather that is also white-ish cream colored, but should I use a different product on it versus the leather surfaces?

Here is the color of it if it matters. The areas above head and along doors are not leather but rather some sort of textured material to color match the leather I guess.

I use Leather Honey on my leather car seats, leather furniture, and non-polished leather shoes. Both their cleaner and conditioner.

Also forgot to mention we are supposed to have interior and exterior coated in Xzilon in a couple weeks for paint and upholstery protection, so should I still use the same products recommended afterwards for stains/conditioning?

Assuming just bought means new vehicle not used vehicle then there are several options:
  • Once a month - use a 3-in-1 leather product that cleans, conditions, and provides UV protection. This is the route I've chosen. I've tried several and my favorite is BLACKFIRE Leather Complete
  • Twice a year (adjust frequency depending on how dirty seats get) - use a separate leather cleaner and then follow-up with a conditioner with UV protection. P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner pairs up well with P&S Leather Treatment
  • Multiyear Leather Coating - You'll still need to clean it first (eg.P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner) and then apply a leather coating such as CarPro's Leather 2.0

The other upholstery needs to get identified. It could be be a delicate pain in the butt material like alcantara. I did a quick google search and some Volvo's have a tailored wool which I have no idea how to care for.

Lexol hear as well. That said ALWAYS test any lether product in an unobtrusive area just to make sure it doesn’t strip the color or cause some other issue. (I’ve never had a problem but better safe then sorry).

I have quite a few different products that I've tried for leather care sitting around and the one I keep going back to is Zaino leather in a bottle.

Good suggestions guys. How does the Xzilon affect how one treats or cleans up after the application? I would hope it is easier remove stains after right? Hence the reason for the coating.

I know this may sound strange and cheap but, I have got good results from Jay Leno’s Garage leather cleaner wipes followed by his leather conditioner wipes.

Is this what you've ordered for the interior?

    If it is:
  • it's a fluoroalkyl coating. Should last longer than a sealant assuming whomever is the installer does the appropriate prep and applies correctly.
  • says it holds up to repeated spot cleaning

I’m not sure I us any conditioner for a while if it’s garage kept.
I use a damp cloth to wipe off minor dirty stuff and after it starts to get a bit broken in, Lexol. Too much and your wind will get a film when it’s in the sun more.
Most leather seats already have a protective coating from the manufacturer so I’d ask them (not the Volvo dealer who probably sell stuff).

Conditioning won’t need to be done for a while I guess, I really just wanted something that was good at cleaning off spots of various spills and such. I may look into several suggestions made so far and narrow it down.

And yea, Tatortodd that looks to be it, so I’m thinking it should be better to clean after the application. Hopefully less need to clean all together with more spot resistance I’m guessing. Either way over time nothing is going to keep what is essentially white interior white without some elbow grease and TLC so I’m trying to gear myself up without overdoing it or on the opposite end of the spectrum—using an inferior product. I’m gathering that the same products that are recommended above are perfectly fine to use whether or not it’s treated with Xzilon.

Ever since I've owned cars with leather seats I've scrubbed them with saddle soap a couple times a year and them applied Lexol. The seats in my wife's car, a 2004 Lexus RX, now 20 years old, are still in great shape, smooth and pliable with no cracks or tears. Had same results with my Acuras, BMWs and Mercedes.

If the leather is in new or like-new condition, getting a 2-n-1 or 3-n-1 product will suffice.

I have used the same bottle of Griot's I purchased several years ago. I use it more often then not so something more aggressive is not needed. https://a.co/d/3pBjkrH
They also have one that includes UV protection. https://a.co/d/8OAbsgX

If you go longer in between using this product & allow the seats to get dirtier, an individual cleaner & individual bottle of conditioner will work better.

This was part of a question I asked back when we bought our new car. Everyone was very helpful and we got a lot of great information.
    Congratulations on the new car.

I also think the Jay Leno cleaner is good. It lifted the dirt and grime from my leather seats. I have been impressed with the product. Because it is a cleaner, it seems to be needed to follow up with a conditioner.
The cleaner I buy at Walmart is this:

It is the spray cleaner. I have not tried the wipes.
